Bodhi Tree - If you are a spiritualist and a buff about history and legends, Bodhi Tree is a must-see place for you. It is located in Bihar, about 100 k.m. from Patna, the state's capital. Bihar is just often referred as the "Land of Buddha" and Bodhi Tree is perhaps the most important Buddhist pilgrimage in the state. It is believed that Lord Buddha attained enlightenment under the tree and thus the site is a significant religious site as well as a prominent spot in the world. There also exists an old Buddhist temple called the Maha Bodhi Temple. The beauty of the temple is simply unmatched as it is highly ornamented with intricate carvings of different designs. Travelers coming from Delhi could board the Seemanchal Express, which is a direct train from Delhi to Patna and has good frequency of trains.



Griddhakuta Peak - It is yet another popular tourist destination in Bihar. The place is most ideal for adventurers and spiritualists. Located in Rajgir, a small city in Nalanda district, the place is also popular as the "Vulture Peak" for the fact that shape of the peak is identical to a vulture's form and also for the fact that vultures frequent the place in large numbers. The place houses two ancient caves that are formed naturally and generate lots of tourist interest. Besides, Lord Buddha also delivered some of his sermons here, therefore making the place important religiously.



Achanakmar Wildlife Sanctuary - If you are a nature-lover and seek to spend some time in the midst of nature, away from the hustle-bustle of cities the Achanakmar Wildlife Sanctuary is the ideal spot for you. The area was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1975 and is one of the richest reserve forests in the country. Consisting of sal and bamboo forests, swamps, grasslands, etc., the area is the habitat of leopards, Bengal tigers, sloth bear, nilgai, wild boar, gaurs etc. Visit the park if you are interested in jungle safaris, wildlife photography, etc.



In addition to the above mentioned, the other chief tourist attractions in eastern India are: Bhagalpur, Cherrapunji, Kolkata, Agartala, Kanpur, Puri, Snachi Vaishali etc. The good thing is that getting into destinations throughout eastern India is easy as there is an excellent rail, road, and air connectivity between the cities.
