The past

In 1881, the University of Dundee was established as a University College thanks to a substantial bequest given by cousins Mary Ann and John Boyd Baxter. The Baxter family originated in Dundee, Scotland, and became wealthy from jute mills, which were essential to the country's industrial revolution. "Promoting the education of persons of both sexes and the study of Science, Literature, and the Fine Arts" was the main goal behind the establishment of this educational institution. Furthermore, the institute had no religious oath and had no intention of offering any courses in divinity.

In 1897, the institution joined the institution of St. Andrews as a constituent college. In 1967, the university attained independence through a Royal Charter, and its inaugural chancellor was none other than Queen Mother. With over 200 undergraduate degree combinations offered in a variety of topics, the University of Dundee has evolved into one of the top educational institutions in the UK. The UK University gave both domestic and international students access to academic and research opportunities while providing them with the knowledge, expertise, and technical know-how needed to promote regional and global change.

Ten academic colleges make up the university, and each has groups and research institutes related to them. These consist of:

  • Duncan of Jordan Stone College of Art & Design (which is one of the leading art schools in the UK)
  • School of Business
  • School of Dentistry
  • School of Education and Social Work
  • School of Health Sciences
  • School of Humanities
  • School of Life Sciences
  • School of Medicine
  • School of Science and Engineering
  • School of Social Sciences
  • Duncan of the prestigious Jordan Stone College of Art & Design

This UK university has made a concerted effort to expand and thrive since becoming autonomous. Apart from the academic program, the university offers its students year-round access to four libraries spread across three campuses, each housing over 750 computers and other resources. The University of Dundee has grown its campus by incorporating cutting-edge infrastructure, pushing the limits of research, and maintaining a collaborative culture.
