Short films catch the attention of people by spreading a sensible message in a less amount of time. Many well-established filmmakers started their journey with a short film. Earlier the animators used short films as their weapon to convey their ideas and imaginations. But, today the short films especially focus on the social issues happening around.

Mumbai Film Festival
Right from its establishment, Mumbai Film Festival is acclaimed as country’s largest film festival. On the behalf of the Mumbai Academy, Late Hrishikesh Mukherjee organized the film festival. The 17th edition of the festival took place from October 29, 2015, to November 5, 2015, at Mumbai, India. In the year 2016, it was from 23rd October to 27th October. You can submit the entry on the official website. You do not need to pay anything while submitting the film because this festival is a no-fee film festival.
Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF)
Mumbai International Film Festival was founded in the year 1990 and is organized by the Film Division of India. It is the best-showcasing platform to promote the independent film movement. Every year they have been receiving film entries from 40-50 countries in the categories of short film, documentary film and feature film. The 15th edition of the Mumbai International Film Festival was held from January 28 to February 3, 2018. You can submit your entry on their official website and the submission fee is Rs. 1000/-.
Dharamshala International Film Festival (DIFF)
Dharamshala International Film Festival (DIFF) is one of the recently launched Film Festival but within a very less period, it has managed to become one of the best film festivals in India. The festival was founded in the year 2012 by filmmaker couple Ritu Sarin and Tenzing Sonam. The DIFF conducts its festival in a peaceful place at the Kangara of Himachal Pradesh which is quite unlike the usual metro-oriented Indian film festival. International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK)
International Film Festival of Kerala (IFKK) is a film festival held every year in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala, India. Founded in the year 1996, IFFK is hosted by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy on behalf of Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of Kerala. Your short film must be of good quality content as the selection procedure at this film festival is bit rigorous. The panel members include Indian as well as international Film personas, and they select films purely on the basis of content quality. The festival takes place in November or December every year. You can register on their official website and this is also one of the no-fee film festivals.
Bangalore International Short Film Festival
The Bangalore International Short Film Festival is one of the leading short film festivals in South India. The festival was organized in the year 2011 by the Suchitra Film Society. They also conduct filmmaking workshop and organizes open panel discussions with the Invited filmmakers. This year the film festival will be held between 16th to 19th of August 2018. You can submit your entries on filmfreeway.com. The submission fee is $10 USD to $15 USD (Approx. Rs. 970).
Jaipur International Short Film Festival
The Jaipur International Short Film Festival was founded in the year 2009 by Honu Raj. It stood as the best platform for showcasing the film to the global community. The 10th JIFF took place between 6 January to 10 January 2018 at Jaipur. You can submit the entries on the official website of JIFF and the submission fee is Rs. 1500.
ViBGYOR International Film Festival Kerala
ViBGYOR International Film Festival is a prestigious Kerala based short film festival that you can completely trust for submitting your short film. The festival takes place at Thrissur City in Kerala, India. You can submit your entries on the official website of Vibgyor International Film Festival and the submission entry for Indian Film is Rs. 300 and for foreign films, it is $300 (Approx. Rs.20,000).
International Film Festival of India (IFFI)
The International Film Festival of India is the official Film Festival of India, organized by the Ministry Of broadcasting, Govt Of India. Last year was held between 20 to 28 November 2017 in Goa, India. The three genres in which the IFFI accepts the films are the Short, Documentary and feature film. You can submit your entries on the official website of IFFI and the fee for the submission process is Rs. 1500/-.
Banjara- Navi Mumbai International Short Film Festival (NMIFF)
In the year 2014, Sachin Khanna founded Banjara, the Navi Mumbai International Short Film Festival. This newly established film festival has proved its potentiality in its beginning section itself. In the year 2016, NMIFF was held between 2nd to 4th December. You can submit your entries through both online and offline mode. The festival accepts the film entries through online or offline mode. The submission fee is Rs.800 to Rs.3000.
