Top Items To Pack With Bubble Wrap Explained By Professional Allentown Movers

by PRC Agency PR

With the prices of basic groceries - such as eggs, bread, and butter - skyrocketing in 2023, your bread and butter may no longer get you as far as it did just one year ago. And that means - whatever is not essential is cut out of the budget.

So if you're moving and thinking of ways to save money - one alternative you've probably come up with is to just DIY the whole thing. Which is great - it really does save a lot of money - I know, I did it. But you likely have tons of questions - like.. uhm... "what to pack with bubble wrap?" - because, again, you don't want to waste too much money on something like bubble wrap.

Don't worry though, as I said - been there, done that - and while I didn't have all the info then, I do now. Not because one moving experience made me the ultimate moving expert - it doesn't work that way - but because I found this bubble wrap packing guide, which was written by the experts, Movers.com. (Where was this 2 years ago? Seriously... sometimes I think the universe is playing a cruel joke on me...)

It's not too late for you though; read on and find out:

  • what are the top 8 items to pack with bubble wrap
  • how to pack them, plus extra tips for safety
  • ... how to get free moving quotes (you never know - you might find a company with reasonable rates)

Do I Need Bubble Wrap? - Yes. Yes, You Do.

You may be thinking you can make do with old newspaper and cardboard boxes you got for free from a local grocery store (or maybe they started charging a high price for those too?), but you'd be wrong. You're missing one of the most essential packing materials: bubble wrap.

But before you maniacally start buying miles and miles of bubble wrap, you should know what you need it for so you can plan properly. So here are the top 8 items you need to wrap in bubble wrap:

  • wine glasses,
  • china,
  • glass tabletops,
  • glass cabinet doors and shelves,
  • mirrors,
  • artwork,
  • vases, and
  • electronics.

Now look around you and based on how many of the above you see make a rough estimate about how much bubble wrap you need - keep in mind all items need to be wrapped separately. More on that below.

Small Fragile Stuff - How to Pack Wine Glasses & China with Bubble Wrap?

As I said, all the items must be packed individually; otherwise, you may as well not use bubble wrap at all - the odds of your precious crystal glasses breaking would be pretty much the same.

So wrap each wine glass individually and then place them in a cell box - pretty much a box with dividers. The cells should be cushioned with extra paper so the glasses don't shift and break during transport. For both glasses and other china, like mugs and tea cups, make sure you place a balled-up piece of paper in the container - especially if you have those really thin ceramic cups. Those need extra TLC.

What About Glass Tabletops & Shelves - How to Bubble Wrap Large Items?

When it comes to packing larger items like glass tabletops and doors, make sure you use packing paper first. Let me repeat that because it's very important: packing paper first, bubble wrap second. Why? Well, you know those air pockets we love to pop? Yeah, those - as fun as they are, I assume you'd find them less fun if they were to leave weird impressions on your mirror or glass tabletop. To avoid that - packing paper first.

Once you have your tabletop or shelf wrapped in packing paper and bubble wrap, throw a moving blanket over that too for extra protection and secure it with tape. After all, these are expensive items, you don't want to take any risks.

Hiring Professional Movers - How Much Will It Actually Cost You?

Alright, I said at the beginning that I have some tips on finding professional movers, too. That's also thanks to Movers.com - the guys who wrote the bubble wrap packing guide, and many, many other moving guides.

Movers.com also offers free moving estimates from licensed and insured movers - in fact, they offer up to 7 so you can compare your options. Whether you just want to find someone to drive your stuff from point A to point B, or would like to hire a full-service moving crew, you can probably find a local company that's just right for the job.

They have a whole list of them here:
