by Neha Sharma Digital marketing head

Wellness tourism is fast becoming a ‘thing’ in India. There are destination spas and wellness resorts which promote relaxation, rejuvenation and well-being of guests. Every leading wellness resort offers a wide range of natural therapies to cure different kinds of physiological and mental problems.

The most common wellness therapies are as follows:

Phytotherapy

Treating diseases with plants is known as phytotherapy, and it is a form of herbal medicine. Herbs can be used to treat a range of diseases, including those related to digestion, insomnia or nervous disorders. Since ancient times, plants have been known to have significant properties. In phytotherapy, plants are not fully used. Depending on the type of plant, the roots, leaves, stems, flowers, fruits, seeds or bark are used. In a wellness resort, phytotherapy is used as preventive medicine.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is one of the most popular spa treatments all over the world. It is an alternative medicine, based on the principle that the human being is very receptive to flavors, reacting positively in contact with them. Aromatherapy is often used in the prevention of disease relapse and in order to rebalance the body condition. Known since the old civilizations of the Greeks, Egyptians, Chinese and Indians, aromatherapy can be found in almost every wellness resort.

Thalassotherapy

Also known as the Marine Cure, thalassotherapy refers to a combination of marine elements, used in a medically controlled climate. The term comes from two Greek words: thalasso (marine) and therapy (care). This wellness treatment is effective in the treatment of chronic rheumatism, osteoporosis and spinal pathologies. People suffering from peripheral circulation, postoperative pain, trauma, respiratory diseases, psoriasis, menopause, and insomnia can also benefit from this therapy.

Crenotherapy

Crenotherapy, also known as thermal cure, is a type of medical wellness treatment where certain diseases are treated with mineral water. Mineral components contained in these thermal waters give them specific therapeutic properties. Depending on the type of minerals, the water has different therapeutic indications. Sulphurous waters are recommended for respiratory problems, otolaryngology and rheumatology; and waters containing bicarbonate is indicated for intestinal problems, obesity, and hepatitis. The usual healing process of crenotherapy lasts for three weeks.

Hydrotherapy

A common treatment found in any wellness resort, hydrotherapy actually just means a therapeutic bath. The water and sea salts can stabilize blood circulation, remove toxins from your body and stimulate the peripheral circulation. The water also has the effect of stimulating muscle tone, digestion and metabolism. This therapy can be used for both relaxation and medicinal purposes. Hydrotherapy is part of alternative medicine and is commonly used for pain relief and in burn treatments.

Vinotherapy

Vinotherapy is based on the healing effects of grapes. It is a therapeutic bath where the water is mixed with wine grape extracts and red wine. The grape pips and pulp are known for their exfoliating and rejuvenating qualities when applied to the skin. A vinotherapy session lasts for about 60 minutes. It helps you exfoliate and detoxifies the body, while softening and repairing damaged skin. This refreshing and rejuvenating treatment is highly beneficial for the body and skin.
