Top 5 Poker Variations For Beginners

by Ritwik Sharman Professional Poker Player

Gaming has become a favourite recreational and refreshment activity for people today. Everyone lives a hectic and stressful lifestyle, due to which they miss out on fun and enjoyment. They deserve to take a break and explore some new activities and engagements to help divert their minds. A relaxed, calm, and refreshed mind can think of better ideas and solutions. After all, working hard all day without any break or entertainment is monotonous and tiring.

Owing to busy schedules and other responsibilities, people are unable to attend and participate in games played at weddings, parties, and other social gatherings. They must complete their duties and fulfil the needs of their organisations as well as their families. Technological inventions have made it easier for people to connect and interact with each other. They can also play many games virtually by forming groups on the websites.

There are many forms and categories of games available – card games, racing games, mind games, sports games, puzzle games, etc. They can be played on PlayStations, computers, smartphones and other electronic and gaming devices. Some card games are trendy amongst people, which include Blackjack, Rummy, Solitaire, poker games, and many more.

Following are the poker formats that are popular worldwide:

  1. Texas Hold’em: Currently, it is the most popular poker variant played in card rooms and websites. There are many other types of games under it of which No-Limit Hold’em is the best. It has been the most televised poker variant and has easy hand rankings.

  1. Omaha Hi: In this game, ‘Hi’ refers to the highest hand that wins the pot during the showdown. It is a pot-limit game and is commonly referred to as Pot Limit Omaha (PLO). Making a steady hand is easy because each player gets dealt with an increased number of hole cards.

  1. Omaha Hi-Lo: It is like Omaha Hi, except that the pot collection gets divided into two between the highest and lowest-ranked five-card poker hands. Different combinations of hole cards can be used to make the poker hands. The pot gets divided into two portions which makes it relatively easier to win.

  1. Seven Card Stud: Each player receives their hand with some of the cards face down and hidden from the rest of the players. Other cards remain face up for the opponents to view. Players can see four of their opponents’ seven cards during a hand, too.

  1. Short Deck: It is a variant of Texas Hold’em that has become common in cash games and multi-table poker tournaments The hand rankings are quite different, and there are fewer cards to deal with. With lesser cards comes higher variance and higher possibilities of making many strong hands.

Conclusion

The same variants and many more can be found on poker online games websites. Players must ensure the security of funds and data encryption before registering themselves. Read all the policies and terms before creating a gaming account on any site.
