Top 5 Electric Scooter Maintenance Tips

by Melissa W. Content Writer

The industry of transportation is changing at an alarming rate, and it's all thanks to technology. Electric scooters have emerged as an incredibly efficient and eco-friendly form of transportation, to keep your fast electric scooter (as capable and potent as it can be) it’s important to maintain it regularly.

Scooter Maintenance 101

I've been a mechanic for many years now and based on the many customers I've attended in my garage workshop; I'm going to outline some of my favorite folding electric scooter maintenance tips for everyone.

Electric Scooter Manual

Reading your electric scooter manual, the maintenance section should be right on top of your list. Your manual usually comes with some easy to understand tips and basic instructions on how to maintain most of your pieces. Sometimes you'll need the help of an expert, but it's usually only required when specific parts such as the brakes or control box start failing.

It’s also important to remember that certain manufacturer specifics instructions are included in your manual, for example, how much pressure your tires should have and how thick your brake pads should be.

Electric Scooter Battery Maintenance

Proper battery care and maintenance can extend its useful life and keep your folding electric scooter at the top of its game. Simply remember to recharge your batteries after every ride: if you had a long ride wait around 30 minutes before recharging it if you had a short ride you can recharge it immediately.

One last thing: when storing your fast electric scooter, remember to recharge your batteries at least every 30 days, else they'll oxidize and before you know it you'll have to get a replacement.

Electric Scooter Tires Maintenance

Regularly checking up on your electric scooter tires to make sure they have the right amount of air pressure is important. Maintenance plays a big role in preventing accidents, so look out for signs of wear and tear as well. As always, check your manual to see the manufacturer's specified pressure for your tires and keep it in those ranges at all times.

Electric Scooter Brakes Maintenance

When we talk about basic brakes maintenance, it's all about tuning and replacing the brake pads. Testing your brakes in a controlled environment is a must if you think some maintenance is required for your fast electric scooter, simply pull the hand level while in motion and test out the brakes.

If you've replaced your brake pads and your brakes aren't responsive enough, there's a chance you might need to service them.

Electric Scooter Cleaning

My last tip has to do with cleaning your electric scooter. Preventing buildup of debris and dirt will dramatically increase your electric scooter’s lifespan and keeps you safe as well.

Don't use high power water or jet stream hoses, instead use a toothbrush and warm water to clean under the deck; it's important to be delicate, else you might remove the lubricant from the bearings and cause corrosion and other issues you don't want to manage.

Final Remarks

There you have it guys and gals! I hope you enjoyed this quick guide on how to properly maintain your folding electric scooter. As a closing note, I’d recommend always trusting your gut feeling, if you think your fast electric scooter is unusually slow, or its brakes aren’t quite working, then listen to yourself and check them ASAP. Stay safe!
