Tips That Can Fasten Your Cesarean Section Recovery

From finding out, right till the end of it, child pregnancy and delivery is certainly an exciting time. You finally get to see the baby that has been growing inside you for 9 whole months. At the same time, having a baby can also be taxing on your body in a number of ways, especially if you have had a c-section. You will need more time for cesarean section recovery than you would for a routine vaginal delivery.

Here are a few tips to fasten up cesarean section recovery:

Get As Much Rest As You Can

A c-section is a major surgery and just like any other surgery you need plenty of rest to recover. Your body will take its time to heal and you might even need to stay in the hospital for three to four days after your delivery. Later, it might take you up to six months to heal fully.

However, all of that is easier said than done, especially when you have a little baby demanding your attention all the time. Follow this rule of thumb: rest whenever your baby rests. Also ask your husband or family members for help with diaper changes and house chores so that you can sleep whenever your baby naps.

 

Take Extra Care

Take extra care when you are recovering. This means you should try to avoid going up and down stairs and keep everything you need like food supplies, diapers, and tissues nearby. Avoid lifting anything that is heavier than your baby and remember to hold your abdomen tight when coughing or sneezing to protect the incisions.

It could take anywhere between 6 to 8 weeks to get back to your normal routine. You might feel tempted to exercise, but don’t proceed until your doctor gives you the green light.

Relieve the Pain

Ask your doctor which medicines you can take to alleviate the pain. Depending on your level of pain the doctor might advise you to take over-the-counter meds like Tylenol or NSAIDs. Never take medicines without consulting your doctor, especially if you are breastfeeding.

Eat Good

The right nutrition is as important as it was when you were pregnant. Especially if you are breastfeeding you are the primary source of nutrition for your baby as well.  For proper c-section recovery eat a lot of vegetables and keep make sure that you intake a good amount of healthy fluids.

Finally, if you have a family member or friend who went through c-section, don’t compare yourself to them.
