Tips On How To Better Protect Your Car From Intruders

by Kristen White Blogger
The National Insurance Crime Bureau indicates that in the United States, a car is stolen every 33 seconds. Car theft and sabotage can be random acts of crime, but there are multiple measures that you can in order to protect your car from intruders.

Some of the measure to take against automobile vandalism and theft are the simplest and least expensive to consider. If you have a problem with your car, be sure to contact the best locksmiths in Oklahoma City. If you are a victim of an act of theft or vandalism, however, contact the authorities. Criminals will commonly target easily accessible cars, so remember to do each of the following:

Lock your doors. You should realize by now that this is absolutely necessary, but there are always people who forget to do this or do not see the danger in not doing so, and they pay for it later on.

Roll up your window. It can be hot outside, and you prefer to have cool air when you return to your car, but an open window can make it easy for intruders to unlock your car and enter it. Even rolling it down by a finger tip's length will give somebody a chance to open the door it one way or another.

Hide money or electronics. Do not leave dollar bills or smartphones on any tray or seat. These are easy for potential thieves to notice, and when they do, they will break your window and take them. Hide money and electronics in small compartments or sleeves so that people that peek into your car won't see them.

Park your car in a well lit area that is preferably in a secure and/or public place. Some place where an onlooker can easily witness a crime being attempted or committed is a great place to park your car. It is easy for thieves or vandals to get away with stealing or breaking into a car when no onlookers or security cameras are around. A parking lot or street that has plenty of activity will discourage somebody from breaking into your car, simply because it would be very tough for them to get away with it.

Never leave your car running unattended. For some reason, you may think it could be a good idea to leave your car running for a while, while you return a shopping cart, or go to the rest room, or what have you. A thief can be looking for an easy way to get from point A to point B, and that is with a car that is turned on, unlocked, and with the keys in the ignition. Whatever you do, have your keys on you at all times.

Even if you have a spare key programmed from the best locksmiths in Oklahoma City, never hide the spare key in your car. While you may think this is a good idea for when you are running late for work and forget to take your keys, this is not recommended for the reason that it is much easier for thieves with the intent of stealing the car to find a key when they look for one.

If your home has a garage, be sure to use it. Even thieves can look to steal a car on your own property, so do not risk it. Keep your car in a garage at home, and be sure that it is closed so that thieves require more time and effort if they have the nerve to attempt a theft at your expense.
