Tips for Keeping Your Backyard Warm During Winter

by Stephanie Snyder Author & Freelance Writer

Now that the summer is here, you are probably spending as much time as you possibly can outdoors and in your backyard, relaxing with your family and entertaining guests. Winter is right around the corner, which in most places throughout the country, comes with cold temperatures that you do not want to be in for too long. Just because it is cold outside does not mean that you have to stop providing entertainment in your backyard, however. You can remain warm, even while being outside, by using the five strategies in your backyard that are provided to you in the list below.

1. Put Up Shelters

If you do not have a covered porch, you should invest in a tent or canopy-like structure for your backyard that you only use during the cooler months of the year. This structure will provide insulation and will protect you from any cold winds that may come through in the winter. You can also put up tent heaters that are made to keep you safe while emitting heat throughout the structure that you are entertaining your guests in. If you do not feel comfortable putting the heater directly inside of the tent, you can install a diffuser with it, putting it right outside the entrance.

2. Add an Outdoor Fireplace

Many individuals put up an outdoor fireplace in their backyards to light during the winter months. These are now a very attractive feature in many homes, increasing the worth and value when it is time to sell, making it doubly beneficial. You can have a professional install either a gas fireplace or a wood-burning fireplace depending on which you would rather use at your home. If you cannot afford professional installation, you can even find kits at hardware stores that allow you to install these backyard features by yourself.

3. Have Fires

If you want to entertain in the winter on a low budget, light a bonfire or have a fire with a fire pit. Bonfires are best if you have a wide-open space in which you can easily control the burn and do not have to worry about it catching any structures on fire. Make sure that you do follow the regulations in your local area, however, so that you keep everyone as safe as possible. Fire puts, on the other hand, can be found at any department or hardware store and can be moved where you need them to go to stay warm.

4. Patio Heaters

You have likely seen patio heaters at restaurants that offer outdoor seating during the winter. These are freestanding and can be adjusted based on the temperature that you need in order to keep you and your guests warm. Unfortunately, these heaters only emit so much heat, so you do have to be relatively close to them in order to reap the benefits from them. For this reason, you may want to place the seating around the heater or put the table next to it so that you can stay as warm as possible.

5. Add Cozy Products

To add even more to the heat you need in the winter, put in some cozy products. Add pillows, blankets, and plenty of other materials that your guests can snuggle up and get comfortable under so that they can remain warm. Offer extra socks and even beanies and gloves for your guests to wear if they forgot to bring their own for sitting outside. Make sure that any cozy product that you offer, however, is ample enough for anyone and that you have enough for everyon4 to use if they need it.

Final Thoughts

The warmer months of the year where you live are usually those that are most used for entertaining guests. Sometimes, however, you want to entertain in the winter so that you can have a fire or continue living the social life that you need. To ensure that you are warm while outside in the winter, however, be sure to use these fires and the varieties of different heaters that are available. Add plenty of cozy products around like pillows, blankets, cozy socks, and gloves that will be sure to add to the warmth and comfort your guests need.
