It is very common for warehouses to be overloaded with work with almost all the time. The management is always required to take swift actions to keep the operations streamlines. If not often then at least once or twice in a week, warehouses witness accidents like tripping, falling etc. Some of these accidents lead to unfortunate fatalities as well sometimes.

It is, therefore, logical to think that there is a dire need to ensure safety without compromising on the productivity of operations. Logistics parks in India are coming up with modern methods to tackle the redundant problems and make a safe work environment. Here is how you can improve the productivity of your logistics services:

Labour Motivation

It is absolutely indispensable for any organization to keep its workforce motivated. The labour influences the costs of an organization majorly and therefore, the productivity cannot be ignored. Warehouse management can do this by including incentives for better work or alternatively opt for automation as well. Besides these two, warehouse managers should also make sure that the labour is working in right conditions and not more than eight hours a day. Usually, accidents happen because the labour is not well rested and overworked.

Rotating the work-flow

Warehouses usually need a skilled workforce to operate. This is the reason why a certain set of people are allowed to do just one kind of work but the workforce should be taught to handle all kinds of work in case of emergency. Also, it is also a good idea to keep rotating the work within various workforces to break the monotony at the workplace. Regular training should be held at the workplace to make this thing happen.

Avail Technological Advancements

The manufacturing sector has been modified with technological advancements over the years. With cloud computing, data analysis and organisation have become easy and convenient. The Industrial Internet of Things (IOT) has overhauled the processes drastically as well. Though, there are many warehouses in India that haven’t availed the benefits of technological advancements as yet but managers are slowly becoming aware of it and warehouses particularly in cities like Mumbai, Chennai, and Delhi are making changes in their set-up by availing automation and other technological tools.

Workstation Planning

The design of the warehouse plays a significant role in defining the process and productivity. Majority of accidents can be avoided if the workstation is optimised according to the workforce and pertaining workload. Aspects like work surface height increase ergonomic benefits. A structured work environment improves efficiency as well.

Automation

The progress of technology like automated conveyor belts, forklifts and even robots are no surprise. The industry will soon see a time where the human workforce will be substantially replaced by the automated workforce. It will not only reduce costs but improve efficiency at the workplace as well.

Going Vertical

The warehouse can witness a shortage of space even with huge a surface area. Therefore, it is advisable to utilize vertical space. Pallet racking has been found to reduce workplace accidents. It has been employed in the majority of the warehouses, in turn increasing productivity and perfecting utilization of the space.

Constant Development

The simplest way to ensure optimum work flow is to monitor processes diligently on a regular basis. Successful entrepreneurs state that long-term goals are much better than short-term achievements and ensure the growth of the company for prolonged periods. Accountability and reviewing the processes are path-breaking steps for the success of the company.
