Tips for Designing your Business Cards

by Shafqat M. Content Marketing Head

Business cards come in handy when planning to promote your business or services. You can hand them over to your potential clients, while you’re attending an event or trade show. Or who knows you might meet someone while commuting to your workplace who you think might find your offerings interesting. While the utility of business cards is undisputed, where most people get stuck is when it comes to designing business cards.

Why Design Matters?

Design matters because business cards are marketing tools that professionals across industries utilise to promote their services. Like it’s said put the best foot forward! You’d not want your cards to repel but attract your potential customers. For that, it’s necessary for business cards to have an attractive and eye-catching design. That‘d make you look thoroughly professional!

So whether it’s a cheap and less-expensive standard business card or expensive ones such as Spot UV business cards and Gold Foil business cards, it’s important to have a perfect and personalised design if you want to successfully market your services using these cards.

Why are Business Cards Important?

The importance of business cards lies in their use as tools for sharing necessary contact information on the go. That’s the reason both professionals and business owners have been printing personalized and branded business cards, along with other branded stationeries for their businesses

So, given the immense role business cards play in helping businesses reach their potential customers and other business clients (as in B2B), it’s equally important to understand and know how to design standout business cards. And these tips for designing your business card might help!

Tips for Designing Business Cards

Bring your Persona to Bear on your Card

In other words, when designing a business card, keep in mind your own professional persona or brand identity if you’re a business, so that it’s reflected in its graphic design, colour, and font style.

Keep your Audience in Consideration

Besides your own persona, what else is required to design a perfect business card is the persona of your target audience. For example, who they’re and what are their likes and dislikes. This way you’d know exactly how they’d respond to the design you’ve chosen for your business cards. Size is also included in the design!

Use Coated or Uncoated Paper As Needed

If you want your business card to have a natural and classy look, then using uncoated paper is the best option. However, if you want your business cards to look a lot shinier and more sharply colourful, and want the paper to have ink absorbency, coated paper is what you need.

Follow Minimal Font Size and CMYK Color Model

When designing and printing business cards, it’s important to follow a few design guidelines. That’s to say, use only a minimum font size as it’s easier to read. Follow the CMYK colour model, which means using a combination of the following colours: cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. To achieve the highest image resolution, use 300 DPI graphics and a 5 mm trim space.
