It will be unsafe to search contact while driving; hence Android Auto allows to set up some favorite contacts, to which the user calls frequently. To utilize this feature, one needs to open the contacts, select the contacts that they want to add in the favorites and then tap on the ‘Star’ icon in the upper right corner.
