Set Up a Color Palette Circling Your Window

A clean and simple theme set around a window can make the house look classy. An elaborate set up can make it look elegant and regal. There are a few things to consider when building a theme for your windows:

1.   Colors of the Walls: Elegant off white or cream wall colours give a regal impression. The light coming into the room from the windows bounce off the walls, making the room look larger than it is. Painting the window frame gold can have it attract attention. Dark colors, on the other hand, gives it a cozier look as it’ll better absorb light. Coloring the walls surrounding the windows in bright colors in a dark room can shift create a nice contrast in the room. If your house has a low ceiling, then do not forget to paint the trim the same color as the walls. This will give a taller feeling to the room and highlight the windows.

2. Colour Contrasting or Complementing Curtains: Light colored walls need complementing curtains to make them noticeable. Where as, contrasting curtains better suit windows in a dark coloured room. Make sure that they are installed higher above the window frame to garner a more dramatic effect. There are also a few basic curtain options that suit all wall colors. White, black, neutral colours, stripes and light floral patterns usually work with all types of décor.

Adjust the Surrounding Furniture and Light Levels Around the Window

Adding furniture around the window is one of the best ways to highlight them. The seating arrangement can be done facing the windows for a better view of what’s outside. Small and quirky furniture placed right in the middle framed by the window can bring a lot of interest towards the framing. Make sure to leave an ample amount of space in between the furniture and the window. Otherwise, you risk the space looking clustered. A good example is placing bookshelves beside a window.

The lighting of a room also plays a major role in enhancing the how a window looks. The placements of the lights in front of the window or on the ceiling can change the mood of the space and those sitting within it. Ambient lighting can be a good option for the rooms with dark walls.

A window is your home’s portal to the outside world. How it looks and is presented says a lot about your décor tastes.  The above tips will help you give your windows an effortless facelift.
