Three Ways to Bring Your Kitchen up to Date

by Kevin Smith Author

Whether it is for your own personal use or you are looking to sell your house, the kitchen is said to be the heart of the home and keeping it up to date makes the rest of your home feel the same. While a full kitchen renovation can be spendy, choosing to update just one or two things can make a big impact on the overall feel of your kitchen. Here are just a few things you can do to bring your kitchen up to date.

Kitchen Cabinets

Old cabinets can quickly date a kitchen. While it can be a big investment to update all your cabinets, they have a big effect on the overall look of your kitchen. There are many options for updating your cabinets and all are dependent on your personal style. You could choose to go for ultra-modern kitchen cabinets or you could choose a more traditional shaker style cabinet.  The color and style of your cabinets can brighten up your kitchen and instantly bring it up to date.

Countertops

Your countertops are another part of your kitchen that takes up a large amount of square footage and can, therefore, make a big impact on the overall feel of your kitchen. Once again, choosing to update your countertops may feel like a big investment, but especially when it comes to selling, it will give you a return on your investment. To bring your countertops up to date, you are going to want to choose a material that is going to be durable and look aesthetically pleasing. Some of the best materials to update your kitchen countertops with are granite, quartz and if you don’t mind spending just a little extra care on the upkeep, marble. All of these materials are durable and will give you an up to date feel in your kitchen.

Lighting

Many people don’t think of their lighting when it comes to updating a kitchen but it can be amazing the difference it can make. Old fashioned lighting can make even a modern kitchen feel dated. There are many ways you can incorporate lighting into your kitchen, from some elegant pendant lights over an island to high-end under-cabinet lighting. No matter how far you decide to go with your lighting even just switching out some dated ceiling lights will make a big difference to the overall feel of your kitchen.

So no matter whether you choose to go with modern kitchen cabinets, update your countertops or switch up your lighting, all these projects are going to help to bring your kitchen up to date and improve the feel of your home.
