Three Reasons Why Teenagers Want To Be Homeschooled

by Kristen White Blogger
High school in a traditional form includes classes, peer pressure, tests/exams, figuring out where to fit in, extracurricular activities and memorable milestone events such as prom and homecoming. In addition, teens are able to earn their driver’s license and even get a job.  This allows them the freedom to start making their own money and to begin having a say in their finances.

All these things combined can be a lot of pressure for a single individual especially if they are high-performing and engaged in AP or Honors classes in order to prepare  for college. Trying to find the proper balance can lead to burn-out, falling behind in their studies or getting overwhelmed with the pressure.  This is also why students are  asking to be removed from the public school environment to one they can control. Homeschooling allows the student to study and complete assignments at their own pace, so they can do their best work and not be distracted by  other students or issues in their classroom.

Time management is another benefit that teens appreciate with this approach because they can do the school work around their job schedule, sports practices and other extracurricular activities. It’s not that studies become a secondary priority, but they are better able to balance time and responsibilities with the best high school homeschool programs since they can log in at any time, do the work and submit it to the instructor. This level of independence and decision-making is one of the characteristics that makes homeschool students favored by employers and colleges because the students develop time-management and self-discipline skills that are not necessarily present in students who follow the traditional course.

A third reason high school students are looking more to homeschooling is to get out of an environment where bullying has become more prevalent and safety is not assured without enhanced security measures like cameras and metal detectors. It’s hard to focus on studies when you aren’t sure whether a student in the class is going to get mad and decide to act out. More students want to control their situation and remove themselves so they can focus on their school work and achieve grades that will open doors to the colleges and universities they want to attend. By partnering with a formal online homeschool program records and transcripts are maintained by the school and sent, when requested, to the applicable agencies.

Parents are supporting their students with this option because the teaching is done by  professional online instructors who also provide guidance while students use  their computer or tablet to do the work. They have peace of mind that their teen has the best opportunity to study and to get to graduation so they can take the next steps forward in their independence.
