Three effective ways of speeding the lemon law buyback process

by Andrew Richardson allenstewart

Well, not every person who buys a new vehicle thinks that he will end up with a defective vehicle that will be eventually deemed as lemon. So, it is natural for a customer to be unprepared for the whole process.

But thankfully, the Iowa Lemon Law is in place to support the customers. When filed properly with an attorney by the side, the customers can obtain rightful remedy.

However, manufacturers can prove the biggest problem in your case. After all, they are the ones who will be taking care of everything from your attorney’s fees to providing you the needful refunds. So, they may drag your case.

To avoid the unnecessary dragging of your case, we are assembling this article with the top three effective ways of speeding the lemon law buyback process.

1- Don’t wait to get the repairs: As soon you come across a manufacturer defect in your vehicle, contact your manufacturer immediately about the repairs. This is because there are a couple of reasons why sooner is better:

Time is crucial: The longer you wait, the less time you will have on the warranty. If the issue has occurred within the warranty period and you wait longer to notify the manufacturer, then the case can become invalid.

You make the vehicle vulnerable to “driver’s abuse”: When you have an issue with your vehicle, and you delay the repairs, you are directly adding more stress to the problem that could be considered as driver’s abuse.

2- Conduct general research on Lemon Law before consultation: Not many people have an idea of what lemon law is until they fall into the situation. This means people have little to no experience.

So, it is wise to conduct general research on the lemon law process before getting started with the consultation. Gain a little information on questions like:

  • Is my vehicle under warranty?
  • How many times should I take my vehicle for repair at the manufacturer/dealership?
  • What is considered a substantial defect? Etc.

These details will be highly appreciated by your lawyer. And don’t worry, your attorney will help you throughout, but a little information will help you understand things better.

3- Gather and organize the documents: Paperwork and documents are extremely important in a lemon law case. So, make sure that you have:

Repair invoices detailing the issue in the vehicle, the outcome of the repair, types of repairs attempted, and how many times.

  • Receipts of all incidental costs.
  • Vehicle’s history and repair timeline.
