Things you should know about the use of Lithium battery

by Julissa G. Content generator

Due to the characteristics of the lithium battery, there is no need to perform discharge and overcharge operations, and the life of the battery is completely dependent on the effective charging time. In other words, even if you only use half of the battery to start charging, there is no impact on battery life. What else do you know about lithium batteries? Here are some things you should know about the use of lithium battery:

1 Does it need to be activated?

Lithium-ion battery should go through the following process before leaving the factory: Lithium-ion battery case is filled with electrolyte--sealing--constant voltage charging-discharge. Perform several cycles like this, so that the electrode is fully wetted by the electrolyte and fully activated until the capacity reaches the required level. This is the activation process. After that, test the capacity of the battery, select batteries with different performance (capacity) to classify, classify the battery, and perform capacity matching. Such a lithium-ion battery is already activated to the user. The time from the factory to the user's hands is as short as one month and as long as half a year. Because the battery electrode material will be passivated, it is generally recommended that the battery used for the first time be 3-5 times fully charged and discharged in order to eliminate the passivation of the electrode material to achieve the maximum capacity.

2 Does it need to charge 12 hours in the first three times?

Since the early NiMH batteries required replenishment and trickle charging processes, it took about 5 hours to achieve the most perfect filling condition, but even at that time it did not take 12 hours. The constant current and constant voltage charging characteristics of the lithium ion battery determine that its deep charging time does not require 12 hours.

3 Does the rechargeable battery have the optimal capacity?

Nickel-based batteries have the optimal capacity and, if used properly, they typically reach the optimal capacity between 100 and 200 cycles. For liquid lithium ion batteries, there is no such hump phenomenon of circulating capacity. That is to say, the lithium ion battery does not have the optimal capacity.

4 Will charging at a higher current be faster?

For nickel-based battery, since it is charged at constant current, the higher the charging current is, the faster the charging is. However, for lithium-ion batteries, in a certain current range (1.5C--0.5C), increasing the value of the constant current and constant voltage charging mode does not shorten the time of charging.
