Things to Know About ICSI Treatment

by Shivani Sachdev Director at SCI IVF Hospital

The sperm's head must first contact the egg's exterior before it can fertilize it. Once the sperm has connected to the egg, it pushes its way past the egg's outer layer and into the cytoplasm, where fertilization takes place.

There might be several factors that prevent sperm from penetrating the outer layer. It's possible that the sperm aren't able to swim, the egg's outer shell is very thick or difficult to break through, or both. In the ICSI treatment centre in Delhi, IVF may be combined with ICSI to fertilize the egg. ICSI involves injecting a single sperm directly into the cytoplasm (the egg).

For whom is Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection Required?

Among the many fertility issues that may be addressed with ICSI in the best ICSI clinic in Delhi NCR are the following:

·       An inadequate number of sperm to carry out IUI or IVF.

·       Sperm that move in an unnatural manner

·       Problems sperm encounter while trying to attach to an egg

·       Inability to produce sperm due to a blockage in the male reproductive system

·       Failure of traditional IVF to fertilize eggs, regardless of sperm quality.

ICSI and Male Factor Infertility

Male factor infertility, for which ICSI is often performed, describes cases in which the male spouse has reproductive issues. His sperm count may be too low for an egg to be fertilized. Problems with his sperm's motility (their ability to swim) or shape may prevent them from reaching the egg and fertilizing it.

When the male partner does not have sperm in his ejaculate, it may be because of a problem with the vas deferens, the tubes that transport sperm from the testicles. His sperm may be collected and utilized in assisted reproductive technologies like IVF and ICSI. If his sperm looked good during the last IVF round but could not father a child, he and his partner may try ICSI. ICSI treatment in Delhi improves the likelihood of conception by ensuring the sperm reach the egg.

How does ICSI treatment function?

IVF may fertilize an egg in the conventional method and the ICSI. In conventional IVF, the egg is placed with nearly 50,000 or more swimming sperm in a petri dish. Fertilization will occur if a sperm makes it inside the egg's cytoplasm.

In ICSI, a single sperm is inserted into the centre of an egg using a micropipette, which is essentially a very small needle. After fertilization, whether by standard IVF or ICSI, the egg (now an embryo) spends anywhere from one to five days developing in a lab before being transferred to the woman's uterus (womb).

Advantages of the ICSI Process

The advantages of the ICSI process are:

·       If you've tried and failed to conceive a child the traditional way, ICSI may give you another opportunity to have a child with your genetic makeup.

·       The sperm for ICSI may be collected even if your partner cannot ejaculate on the day of egg harvest for traditional IVF.

·       ICSI benefits couples with unexplained infertility in the best fertility clinic in Delhi.

Conclusion

Several fertility centres like SCI IVF hospital include ICSI in each IVF procedure. Some people only take it after trying everything else, including ovarian stimulation, and still haven't gotten pregnant, despite male factor infertility. Success rates for IVF with ICSI are comparable to those of IVF alone for couples with normal sperm quality.

Pregnancy and a healthy baby are not assured by using ICSI in conjunction with IVF. Egg age is still a consideration, along with all the other variables that come into effect during IVF. When eggs haven't fertilized properly in the past, ICSI may help even things out.
