If you are planning to buy a dishwasher, but don’t know much about it or which one is the best dishwasher to buy in India, here are some thing you would like to know all about dishwashers:

  • Dishwashers are either free-standing ones or built-in appliances. Freestanding dishwashers can be placed anywhere, not necessarily under your kitchen’s unit; built-in or integrated dishwashers are fixed units in your kitchen.

  • Place settings decide the capacity of a dishwasher. If your dishwasher has one place setting, it usually means there is space/provision to load about 10-11 items that include about three plates, three spoons, two cups, a glass, a saucer, knife and fork. Most compact dishwashers have eight place settings while the bigger dishwashers have as many as 12 to 15 place settings.

  • Dishwashers come with baskets that can be adjustable – you can move some upper ones to make space for bigger dishes or vice-versa.

  • You should always make sure that the dishwasher is full before you start using it. The same water and power are used irrespective of whether your dishwasher is fully loaded or half loaded. This applies to models that don’t have the half-load program.

  • It helps to clear leftovers from dishes before loading them onto the dishwashers for greater efficiency.

Features that matter

Before you decide on which is the best dishwasher to buy in India, check out the many features. The best dishwashers come with the following features:

  • Adjustable upper basket
  • Extra basket apart from the standard two baskets
  • Shelves for loading mugs
  • Rinse aid indicator (LED)
  • Water spray shower
  • Steam drying
  • Option of using tablet detergent

You should also check out the number of wash programs that your dishwasher comes with – eight is a good number. Different programs are aimed at different kinds of dishes. Very dirty pans that need a lot of soaking may need an intensive program, while glass or china may need a delicate program. An ‘extra hygiene’ program helps wash dishes at 50 deg C first and then gives them a further wash at 70 deg C. There is a rinsing process involving three stages to remove oil or stains. This option is particularly useful if you are cooking greasy food!

Some extra features like a flexible half load or water-softening are handy to have. In a flexible half-load option, you can load one of the baskets, depending on your needs. This saves energy. The water softener is also useful as it optimises the use of detergent in your dishwasher.

Steam drying is a good option to have as well, as it dries your cookware and dishes without any drops or marks on them. This is very useful when you are hosting and want spotless ware on the dining table.

No matter which type of dishwasher you buy, ensure that you buy one that suits the size of your family. There is no point buying a compact one when you have a large family, or a big one when you are a small family of two people.

Now that you are equipped with a dishwasher, go ahead and cook up a storm. Don’t worry about doing the dishes; your dishwasher will take care!
