Things to Keep In Mind While Buying a Baseball Bat for Your Kids
My kids love to play baseball and had been asking me for new bats for their upcoming game. Why not, I thought. However, I had no idea what to look for when purchasing the bats to make sure that I had chosen the correct ones.
I didn’t know how hard the boys could hit neither did I know what their leagues rules were. Baseball bats come in various sizes and weights but at the end of the day, it’s all about the player’s preference.
So I took the players (I mean the kids) with me to the sports store for them to individually select their bats. Of all the things to consider, here are some factors which helped my kids select their bats.
1. An approved Bat:
Some manufacturers have their stamp engraved on it as a mark of standards. Normally, approved bats are generally administered with the 1.15 BPF which means bat performance factor. This determines how fast the ball bounces of the bat. Always make sure that you purchase a bat which is verified by the manufacturer to ensure top quality.
2. Wooden or metal bat:
Depending upon the preference of the player, metal bats are easier to swing and don’t break that easily. Wooden bats are great for training due to wood’s reliable knock-the-ball-out-of-the-park power. Most players practice with wooden and play with a metal one on their game day.
3. Size:
Depending on your weight and height, you may choose from a chart which indicates height to bat length ratio. Also, choosing a slightly shorter bat creates control but the longer the bat the more suitable it is for flinging the ball farther.
4. Weight:
The heavier the bat, the farther the ball will go. However, heavier bats also have a decreased swinging power. This factor is dependent on the player themselves. The slimmer players can go for a lighter bat while the sturdy ones can opt for a heavy one.
5. Grips:
A good grip is necessary for a good bat. Slim handles helps move the wrist faster.
6. Barrel:
A large hitting area makes the contact with the ball easier hence, the larger the bat, the heavier it shall be. Strength is the key here and players with strength can bat better with a larger barrel.
