“Straddling the Danube River, with the Buda Hills to the west and the Great Plain
to the east, Budapest is a gem of a city.” – Lonely Planet

Through the decades, Budapest has remained the favorite city for tourists arriving on the European continent. So don't miss out on the opportunity to experience the magic of Budapest, book tickets and be the part of Hungarian culture and tradition.

What it is about this city that has everyone answering that it’s their favorite without even giving it a second thought?

The answer is, it’s not just one thing, but an amalgamation of numerous activities,
places, and events that make Budapest their favorite European city. Budapest is also called the ‘Paris of the East’, and it is certainly all due to the Danube splitting Buda from Pest, and its sophisticated scene and elegant architecture. This city is also way cheaper than Paris and provides a long list of activities to do.

Here is a compilation of the 6 top places to travel in Budapest.

1. Relax at the Széchenyi Baths Széchenyi Baths are considered as one of the last remnants of Turkish influence in the country. It would be a quintessential Budapest experience to go for a visit to these thermal baths. Though there are not many famous baths here known throughout the world, the grandiose Széchenyi Baths are by far the best thing you’ll ever experience in your whole life. A visit to the baths is surely one of the best things to do in Budapest, no matter which bathhouse you choose to go for.

2. Sample the good wine at the Hungarian Wine Tasting Being a part of the vast labyrinth system which has been winding beneath Buda Castle, the Faust Wine Cellar is certainly one of a kind. Gábor Nagy was the wine sommelier and owner of Faust Wine Cellar. It is known that he regularly travels throughout the 22 wine regions of Hungary in search of the best one to supply to their cellar with. Be rest assured to leave this tasting experience with a rich understanding of the Hungarian wine. This cellar is also known to have the best romantic and relaxed setting.

3. Ride the Danube River Cruise There is no doubt that Budapest seems absolutely beautiful during the daytime, but as the buildings line the banks of the Danube twinkle and reflect on dark waters, it seems even more stunning by night. It is recommended that you take a Danube River sightseeing cruise at night to see for yourself! There are evening sightseeing cruises available which last for an hour or so. You will be provided with audio headsets that will give you some interesting facts about the history of the city, its buildings, and a few little known facts.

4. Take a walk around the Labyrinth of Buda Castle. When we speak about the worlds beneath Budapest, the Labyrinth of Buda Castle stands on top of the chart. It is known as one of the seven wonders of the underground world and adds to the city’s allure and mystery. In the year 2011, it was closed down after police raided it and everyone was forced to evacuate immediately. Ever since the labyrinth was re-opened, tourists can visit 1 mile of its 6-mile long area. Upon arriving here, you can also walk around its slightly misty former prison which held captive its most famous prisoner Vlad Tepes, better known as Count Dracula. After entering inside, you will find that there is nothing but candle lantern to guide you through! Spooky, right?

5. Go for a cave expedition at Budapest People who soothe the thermal waters of Budapest’s famous baths are responsible for more than just a city of fully relaxed Hungarians. There is a huge cave system created here due to rushing waters. These caves are thought to be more than 100 kilometers long. The cave tour is lead by a caving guide and supposedly lasts for about 2.5 – 3 hours. If you are an adventure seeker, it is advisable that you put on your helmets, headlamps, and overalls, and prepare to get down and get dirty!

6. Slink Across the Chain Bridge When it comes to Budapest, another of the must-to-do thing is to walk across the Chain Bridge. This bridge was completed in 1849 and was also the first bridge to permanently connect Buda and Pest. At the time when the Chain Bridge was built, the architect was so immensely proud of his work and challenged anyone he could to find a fault in it. The Chain Bridge was also considered to be among the 7 wonders of the world. Sadly, it is said that the architect committed suicide as soon as he heard that the lions that stand guard at both sides of the Bridge were missing their tongues.

In case you are curious about visiting any of these places, there are multiple
specialized guided tours available. So make sure you pick the most suitable one
and enjoy your trip to the fullest.
