The use of POS (Point of Sale) thermal paper printers is becoming extremely popular across the retail landscape as more and more businesses are realizing the benefits of such billing systems. BPA is a toxic chemical solvent that is used to coat thermal paper which is needed for producing the print impression on the thermal paper. Printing on the thermal paper happens through heat transfer wherein no ink or ribbon is needed to produce the print output. Exposure to BPA is harmful for humans and hence retailers should avoid using thermal paper coated with BPA and choose the BPA-free thermal paper instead.

Not easy to change usage patterns

Thermal paper rolls manufacturers who argue that BPA-coated thermal paper should remain in use with user safety guidelines it is a question of people’s lives. While a customer can simply refuse to accept a thermal paper receipt at some POS locations, it is not possible in most other POS locations. Therefore, a thermal paper printer supplier must ensure that he supplies only BPA-free thermal paper to his customers.
