The Winter Wedding Bridesmaid Ensemble
by Kevin Smith AuthorSorella vita, the Italian phrase for "sisters for
life" paints pictures of brides cherishing an everlasting friendship with
their bridesmaids.
If you're planning
on tying the knot in the winter season, you and your maids of honor might be
wondering how they can dress up for the event. No matter how much you want to
keep the fashion perfect, you won't want them shivering throughout your wedding
day, either. To give you an idea of how you can keep style and comfort
together, here are some tips for choosing outfits for your bridesmaids.
The Dress Length
Full-length gowns
are always a good choice for winter nuptials. You may be worried about the hems
getting dirty or wet from the snow, but the fashion rule for that season is
that the more material, the better. Choose from a variety of silhouettes
available, so each dress looks distinct. The common pick is a sheath, but you may
also opt for A-line, ball gown, or mermaid.
The Shoes
A pair of closed-toe
shoes are the recommended footwear to go with the bridesmaids' attire. If a
chance of snow is predicted for your big day, you or your maids may go for low
heels, flats, and even Uggs. But if you or they opt for high heels, insist
they’re for photographs only and use flats for the rest of the ceremony.
The Fabric
Consider heavier fabrics
to help keep the chill away. Satin is the classic choice for dresses, but you may
choose duchess instead. It's a stiffer satin variant with a matte finish. You
can also go to taffeta, organza, and dupioni.
Lace can also be
incorporated, though only as an overlay. This fabric may be used for the
dress's sleeves. If all of you decide on a classic off-shoulder design, you may
include shawls or faux-fur cover-ups into the ensemble.
The Color Scheme
Most couples
incorporate colors from their wedding’s color scheme for the bridesmaids'
dresses. You may do it differently for your own ceremony. Pick rich hues of
emerald green and royal purple. Burgundy and dark tints of red exude elegance,
while the platinum, gold, and rose gold can add a regal vibe to the event.
To help you
celebrate your big day and another milestone with your Sorella
vita, consider these tips when deciding on bridesmaids'
attire. Ask your pals for suggestions. Better yet, visit a bridal shop or get
in touch with a wedding dress designer to explore more options.
