The Virtual Assistant’s Future
As of late, artificial virtual assistants have been gaining plenty of traction in modern society usage. Siri, Google Assistant, Alexa , Cortana, Amy, Samsung Otto, and Shae are becoming more and more popular because of their features. They are now able to do a growing number of tasks. They can read and send emails, schedule meetings, check your biometrics, answer questions and many others.
Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has even developed an AI for his house. It's somewhat akin to Tony Stark and JARVIS in Marvel’s Iron Man comics. According to Zuckerberg, his JARVIS features language processing, facial, speech, voice recognition and has learning capabilities. He added that his AI has control over his house, from lights and appliances right down to his dog’s food dispenser.
With the growing popularity of using virtual intelligence in everyday, a few questions beg to be asked. "Is it better to continue hiring a real virtual assistant? What makes VAs different from AIs?"

As with most choices, human and AI virtual assistants both have their pros and cons. Human virtual assistants have several qualities that not even AIs can replace such as:
• Having flexibility; to be able to adapt and adjust to spontaneity
• Ability to strategize and figure out the best way of marketing to and reaching more clients
• Able to learn from experience and improve from mistakes
• Taking initiative and approaching the client first, not constantly waiting for the client’s next task
• Being original and able to give new ideas and have more creative contributions
• Humans have personalities that are purely their own. They empathize and think on their own, not artificially developed through codes and programs
Lastly, the most important aspect that separates the human virtual assistant from artificial intelligence is a person’s ability to build relationships. Human being yearn for connection. A virtual assistant is capable of creating a relationship with their clients. They are able to develop trust. But, being human unfortunately means there are negative aspects as well:
• It is already a given that humans die, no matter how efficient they are as virtual assistants.
• As each human is unique, this also means the work quality varies depending on the individual.
• Rates and work cultures differ depending on the person’s company and location.
• Real life situations and the person’s attitude can impede work output
• Humans get exhausted and cannot work 24 hours a day, therefore decreasing productivity.
Artificially Intelligent virtual assistants, on the other hand, have the following positive qualities:
• They can perform tasks that are repetitive and time-consuming for humans.
• Recent AI have self-learning capabilities, meaning they can also learn from experience.
• AI assistants have less room for error. This makes more precise and accurate.
• They are able to think and perform tasks rationally. They are not clouded by human judgment and emotions.
• They do not get tired and therefore have no work hours.

Meanwhile, AI also has its downsides:
• They have no initiative and wait only for the user’s next command, unless programmed in advance
• They have no originality and therefore cannot create innovations and ideas.
• They are still in early stages of development and still contain multiple glitches.
• Personalities are premade and they currently have no ability to forge relationships with clients.
A lot of people have expressed their optimism on the future benefits of AI to the advancement of medicine, technology, and welfare of the environment. However, there are others who expressed their concerns regarding the rapid development of AI. More specifically, on its effect on our own intelligence, employment, and humanity in general. Human society now is faced with two choices: whether to depend on their own human strengths, or to give more responsibilities to artificial intelligence.
