When people hear about steamed food, they believe that it is boring and tasteless. However, Chinese people have twisted boring steamed dishes into fascinating mouth-watering meals. Chinese cuisine involves three cooking styles deep-fried, baking, and steaming. Steaming is among the most popular and most used cooking styles in Chinese meals. 

 

Many dim sum restaurants offer steamed dumplings such as Har Gow, steamed pork, beef meatballs, steamed tripe, and more. Steamed dim sums are soft from outside and have a delicate taste from inside. Steamed dim sum recipes are low in fat and contain various ingredients such as green vegetables, meat, and spices.

 

Chinese steamed recipes involve appetizers, desserts, and the main course cooked in a bamboo steamer. Let us see how steamed dishes take place in various Chinese meals.

 

                


Appetizers and Dim Sum:

 

Most of the Chinese dim sum restaurants offer appetizers that are steamed. One of them is Steamed Tripe dim sum prepared by steaming cow intestines in ginger and garlic and on the top covered with soy sauce. This dish is served hot with chili-dipped sauce for a fantastic appetizer experience.

 

One of the famous Chinese dishes is steamed chicken. Chicken is marinated in soy sauce, vinegar, rice wine, and sesame oil for about 30 minutes. On top of that, dries shiitake mushrooms are added, giving an earthy flavor to the dish. 

 

Main Meal

 

Many cuisines have spicy and fried dishes as their main meal, but Chinese cuisine introduced steaming in its main meal. Let us see one example of it.

 

Steamed pork with eggs is the main meal dish, where pork is placed in a bamboo steamer; on top of it, soy sauce, cilantro, ginger, and sesame oil is poured. Beaten eggs are added over the pork; it takes about 45 minutes to prepare this meal. 

 

    


Dessert

 

Chinese dim sum restaurants have a special corner for sweet dishes that are cooked using the steaming method. One of the most popular Chinese New Year desserts is Coconut Red Bean Cake. Red beans are steamed first and mixed with milk, flour, eggs, brown sugar, and crumbled coconut.

 

Steamed banana and pears are used as a dessert in Chinese meals, coated with honey and cinnamon powder on top of it. Chinese people enjoy sweet dishes as much as they enjoy spicy and briny dishes.

 

No one can wonder that any meal can be cooked using the steaming method, whereas Chinese people have developed various steamed meals that are as delicious as its other fried meals.
