The Significance of Power Cables

by Sagar Chauhan Digital Marketing Analyst
A power cable is a joint combination of two or more electrical conductors which are joined together. These cables are used for the supply of electrical power. They are fixed within the buildings, under the ground, run loosely or openly as permanent wiring. They are used for various applications like for power connection with portable devices, mobile tools, and machinery.
Thomas Edison was the person who invented power cables in 1882. The earlier version comprises of copper rods, rolled in jute covered in a rigid pipe added with a bituminous compound. With the advancement in technology and newer scientific methods give PVC insulated cables also known as Romex.
In the market, there are different types of power cables available made up of different materials, sizes and types. Each type has its own uses and applications. The cables comprise of three major components such as conductors, insulation, and a protective jacket. The material to be used in the making of cables depend on the following three factors:
•    Working voltage: On the basis of it, the thickness of the wire is determined.
•    Current bearing capacity: This enables the determination of the cross sectional size of the conductor.
•    The form and composition of the outer cable jacket: This depends on the environmental conditions such as temperature, water, chemical and sunlight exposure.
The cable wires, which are held open or buried have metal armour wrapped around the cables. The armour is made up of metal such as steel or aluminium and prevents from current during the normal functioning. The cables with the power of 10kv or more are insulated with oil and paper, wrapped in a rigid steel pipe. These cables can also be made using the polymers such as polyethene also.
In India, there are a number of manufacturers of power cables. The producers should adopt the following business practices in order to gain a competitive edge in the market-
They should make use of the top-notch grade components and technologically advanced machines for the production of these cables.

They should be backed by a team of dexterous professionals, which is highly proficient in engineering a matchless product quality

These manufacturers in India should thoroughly adhere to the standards and norms laid down by the industry.

They should have enough capacity to suffice the bulk and urgent requirements of their clients on a timely basis.

The producers of power cables in India should be well-equipped with a widespread marketing and distribution network. This enables them to meet the requirements of geographically distributed clients.

They should offer them at a cost-effective rate, to penetrate a large client base.

Thus, we can conclude that the power cables offered by the manufacturers in India are highly embraced by the market for the virtue of high efficiency and reliability.
