The Review of the Shang-Chi Film that Received Praise from the Critics

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is a 2021 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics featuring the character Shang-Chi. The film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which premiered on August 16, 2021, seems to satisfy a number of film critics. A total of 21 out of 23 critics compiled by Rotten Tomatoes praised this film.

Marvel Studios has just released its news movies, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. it is the 25th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a screenplay he wrote with Dave Callaham and Andrew Lanham, from a story by Cretton and Callaham. 

The movie in stars Simu Liu as Shang-Chi alongside Awkwafina, Meng'er Zhang, Fala Chen, Florian Munteanu, Benedict Wong, Michelle Yeoh, and Tony Leung.

One of the praises comes from Brian Lowry as a critic

According to him, Shang-Chi is a film that was done smartly in an effort to diversity in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) franchise.

"Apart from arguing, Shang-Chi is a sequel to Marvel that was cleverly worked on in the midst of trying to be more diverse," said Lowry's review.

Laura Sirikul as critic from Empire Magazine

Discusses diversity, namely Asian representation. He considered Shang-Chi to be on the right path as a film that represents Asia.

"Despite the problem with speed, this film is very entertaining in the right direction for Asian representation," Sirikul's review quotes.

Clarisse Loughrey as critic from Independent

Praise the action scenes in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. He felt that the action scenes of this film displayed various flavors.

"Even the action scenes in this film are full of emotion, playing the role of seduction, anger, or even love," Loughrey's review excerpts.

Tim Robey as critic of the Daily Telegraph

Praise the performance of Marvel Studios. He said that this time Marvel Studios had successfully worked on the film starring Simu Liu properly.

"Marvel accomplished what Marvel did, but this time almost everything was right, and that's rarely the case," commented Robey.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings itself is slated for release in theaters on September 3, 2021. The film is part of the fourth phase of the MCU franchise that began with Fast and Furious 9 film 2021.

Shang-Chi, played by Liu, is the first Asian superhero in the MCU. Its presence as a representation of Asia is similar to that of Black Panther who is present as a representation of Africa.

Shang-Chi first debuted in Special Marvel Edition No. 15 in 1973 by Steve Englehart and Jim Starlin. He is told as the son of the super villain Fu Manchu who repeatedly tries to conquer the world.

Filming Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

A film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings 2021 based on Shang-Chi entered development in 2001, but work did not begin in earnest until December 2018 when Callaham was hired. Cretton joined in March 2019, with the project fast-tracked as Marvel's first film with an Asian lead. The film's title and primary cast were announced that July, revealing the film's connection to the Mandarin (Leung) and his Ten Rings organization previously appeared throughout the MCU. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is the first Marvel Studios film with an Asian director and a predominantly Asian cast. 

Filming began in February 2020 but was put on hold in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Production resumed in August before completing in October, with additional shooting occurring in Sydney and San Francisco.
