An IP surveillance camera is an internet protocol camera that works over a network. These cameras come in various models and types such as Dome, PTZ, Day & Night, Megapixel, etc. The IP cam systems can be divided into two broad categories, viz., centralized and decentralized. The Centralized IP systems make use of a Network Video Recorder or NVR. NVR stores the captured video in a digital format on an external storage device such as a hard disk. On the other hand, a Decentralized one don’t require NVR as the cameras used here have a built-in recording feature; they can transfer the recorded content to a cloud server and this content can also be accessed remotely on an internet enabled device such as smartphone, tab, or PC.

Here we have mentioned the primary benefits of using IP surveillance cameras:

No need for coaxial cable

Since IP cams work over a broadband, WiFi or cellular network, there is no need to attach coaxial cables. Also, there is no need for audio cables as the audio and video is transmitted over the internet.

No limitation on number of cams

Any number of cameras can be installed over an IP surveillance network. The only requirement is enough broadband width to support the total number of devices on the network.

They can be accessed remotely

The content captured via IP surveillance devices can be accessed from remote locations as long as there is internet access. This feature is very useful for both commercial and domestic security as the user can keep a watch over his property even when he is on a different location.

They render high resolution images

The image quality of a digital IP cam device is really good, which makes the objects, people, and miscellaneous details, easily discernible. This quality is possible because all the images are captured digitally. The cameras that make use of analog technique cannot deliver that image quality because there is always some loss of quality when converted from analog format to digital. Also, the distance the data has to travel impairs the quality further in case of an analog device.

They can be easily integrated with other systems

IP cams that make use of an existing Ethernet or WiFi network can be easily integrated with other systems in the premises that make use of the same network. For example, in a departmental store or shopping complex, the digital IP cameras can be integrated with Point of Sale machines or security alarms; this would facilitate better property management.

They save costs

IP cams require very less infrastructure compared to traditional closed circuit security cameras. The former are easy to install, manage, and use. As said earlier, they can operate on an existing Ethernet or WiFi network, which is nowadays present at most of the businesses and homes. The images captured by these cams can also be viewed on multiple devices via internet, hence no need for separate monitors.

The above advantages make IP Surveillance Cams one of the best surveillance cameras for remote locations as they don’t require much cabling and they can deliver recorded content to remote devices through internet.
