Everyone has heard the adage, “If you eat right and exercise, then you can lose weight.” The problem is, that seems hard enough for people. To try to lose weight fast seems impossible, but is it? You have heard all of the marketing schemes and promises, and you may have even seen extreme weight loss television shows like The Biggest Loser, but can the average Joe really see fast weight loss results?

It is possible to lose weight quickly, but that doesn’t mean it will be easy.

Fast Weight Loss Will Require Hard Work

In a world of quick and easy access to everything we desire, to have to work hard and wait to see weight loss results can be difficult, and it can make us want to give up before we reach the weight loss goals we set for ourselves.

Do not let the thought of trying to lose weight rapidly discourage you, because it can be done with the right plan, your desire and effort, and the ability to follow through.

So what do you need to do to lose weight fast?

Combining Nutrition and Exercise is Key

Yes, it is possible to lose some weight by eating whatever you want and just exercising a lot, and it is also possible to lose weight with out exercising and by focusing on your diet, but if you are really serious about losing weight fat, then you will combine both nutrition and exercise to ensure that you see those weight loss fast quicker.

I am going to share with you many tips when it comes to nutrition, as well as show you what types of exercises you should avoid and which exercises you should focus on in your fast weight loss journey. If you follow these tips and dedicate yourself to your goal of losing weight, then you will be able to achieve those goals and be and feel healthier, look better, and gain a lot more confidence which can help you in all areas of your life.

Nutrition for Fast Weight Loss

Nutrition is a key component in any weight loss journey, and there is a lot of misinformation inthe weight loss industry, so I am going to strip the information down to the basics. This will not be the be all, end all guide to nutrition, but it will give you some practical steps that you can take to begin to eat healthier in order to assist your weight loss efforts.

The key to nutrition is common sense. Do not eat foods that are high in fats, do not be too extreme either way, and exercise moderation when you’re choosing what to eat and how much you are going to eat.

Drinking Water

Before I even talk about what you should eat, I am going to focus on drinking water, because it is a very important part of nutrition.

A lot of people who are trying to lose weight become concerned about drinking water because they are afraid that if they drink water, then they will gain water weight which they assume will hurt their weight loss efforts. While I can understand that line of thinking, it is not only incorrect, but not drinking enough water is actually the cause of water weight, not the other way around.

Imagine you are stranded in the jungle, in the desert, or on an island and you do not have access to water. How is your body going to survive without water? It is going to store any of the water that is currently in your body and any other water that you are actually able to consume. This is what leads to water weight, and it is a survival mechanism that our body has to ensure that our bodies have enough water to survive when we don’t have access to water.

The same thing happens in our day to day life. If we do not drink enough water each day, then our bodies will hold onto the water that we do have, store it as water weight, because our body does not know when it will get any more water.

How do you stop this from happening, and actually lose the water weight your body has stored? You drink more water! If you drink more water, and do it consistently, then your body will realize that it has a steady supply of water so it will not need to hold onto the water at all, and your body will release the water that it has stored up, which will allow you to lose water weight.

How much water should you drink each day? That all depends on your body weight, so the calculation will be different for everyone. The easiest way to know how much water you need to drink each day on your fast weight loss joruney is to take your weight in pounds, and divide it by two. That is how many ounces of water you should drink every day. So, if you weigh 220 pounds, then you will want to drink 110 ounces of water each day.

That will keep your body properly hydrated so you do not suffer any dehydration symptoms, and it will allow your body to operate at an optimum level, since all of your organs, muscles, and tissues will be properly lubricated and energized.

Drinking water is definitely an important step, but there are other things that you can do to ensure that you have the proper nutrition so that you can lose weight fast.

Eat Your Fruits and Vegetables

Fruits and vegetables can be a helpful part of any nutritional diet. They have many benefits, which is why I recommended them as the second main point of this nutrition section.

One of the ways that fruits and vegetables will you with your fast weight loss goals is that they will help you to feel more full when you include them with meals. Instead of filling up on the main course or a potential unhealthy side dish, you can fill up on the fruits and vegetables, which will help you to consumer less calories. The calorie hit in fruits and vegetables is very low, and the fat content is either non-existant or very little, and the fats that are in some fruits are healthy, dietary fats that actually help you to lose weight quickly.

Another reason to eat more fruits and vegetables is because they contain vitamins and minerals which are more bio-available than the vitamins and minerals that you get in a multi-vitamin or other type of pill. These vitamins and minerals will help your body to function better, and when your body functions at its optimal level, then you will be able to process food better and burn more fat when you do exercise.

While fruits and vegetables are definitely helpful for may reasons, there are other tips that can help you to lose weight rapidly.

Choose Low Fat/Nonfat Food Options

One way to quickly cut the amount of calories and fat in your diet is to change to low fat or nonfat version of your favorite foods. When I was losing weight, I changed to nonfat milk, fat free pudding, and low fat yogurt. Just those simple changes drastically reduced the amount of fat and calories in my normal food intake. Did they taste exactly the same as the higher fat versions? No, but I was shocked to find out that the lower fat versions still tasted good.

Let’s take milk for example. To lose weight quickly, I went straight to nonfat milk, but you don’t necessarily have to do that. If you even went from 2% milk to 1% milk, you would be cutting your fat intake from milk in half (since 1% is half of 2%). Identify other options for the foods you eat all of the time, and try the light versions, and you may be shocked that they taste okay, and they will help you to be able to lose weight.

Meats to Eat for Fast Weight Loss

Although not technically a meat, fish is an excellent option if you are trying to lose weight. It contains healthy fats, is low in calories, and contains fatty acids that are essential for our well being.

If you do want to eat meat, then you should choose the leaner meats such as chicken and turkey. These meats are healthier than beef is, and they will contain less fat as well.

If you do want to eat some beef, then try to find leaner cuts, and for ground meat, you will want to find the packages that have the least amount of fat.

Lastly, if you want a healthy option and can afford it, then bison meat tastes very good, has wonderful and natural juices, and is extremely lean making it healthier for you.

Make Sure You Eat Enough Calories

Often times, people try to significantly cut down on their calories when they try to lose weight quickly, so much so that it actually begins to hinder their weight loss efforts. You will need enough calories to be able to do all of the exercises that you need to do in order to lose weight. Fast weight loss won’t happen just because you are barely eating anything. In fact, just like the water example above, your body will actually hold onto the calories and the fat in the foods that you do eat if it is not getting enough calories every day.

You do need to keep the number of calories that you are consuming down, but you do still need to eat enough every day. The good thing is, you can eat foods that may have a lot of calories in them, but if the calories are not from fat, they will still fill you up, but not hinder your weight loss.

Eat 6 Times Per Day to Lose Weight Quick

A lot of people think that they only need to eat one or two times and that not eating a lot will help them lose weight. As I just showed, if you do not get enough calories, not only will you NOT lose weight rapidly, but you will probably not lose weight at all or even gain weight. Your body needs to know it will steadily get food.

That is why you should eat six times per day. You should have 3 meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner. These meals shouldn’t be really large meals, but definitely bigger than a snack. Then, you should have a snack in between each of those meals. This will keep your body in a constant state of metabolims which will not only burn more calories and process your food correctly, but it will let your body know that it can expect food so that ti doesn’t store any (or very little) of the food that you do eat.

This is very important, and I know it seems like what you shouldn’t do for fast weight loss, but eating six times per day will really help you to lose weight quickly.

Proper Exercise for Fast Weight Loss

While nutrition is definitely important, if you really want to lose weight fast, then you need to make sure that you are not only exercising, but doing the right types of exercises. I will explain to your the different types of exercise, I will show you why cardio exercises are bad for quick weight loss, and I will show you why strength training is the best type of exercise to see weight loss results.

Different Types of Exercise

There are two main types of exercise. Yes there are others, but I am going to focus on these two types, because they are definitely the most popular types when people are losing weight. Cardio exercises are one and resistance exercises are the other.

Cardio exercises involve getting your heart rate up and conditioning your body to be able to continue doing the said exercise for a longer period of time and for farther instances. The most popular types of cardio exercises are running both outside and on the treadmill, using an elliptical machine, using an exercise bike and other similar exercises.

Resistance exercises involve giving resistance to your muscles so that they need to break down and then grow back stronger. The amount of resistance can be increased over time, allowing your muscles to never get comfortable with the amount of resistance. Some of the most popular types are lifting free weights, using a weight machine, and using resistance bands. You can even do some resistance training exercises without any type of equipment at all. Pushups, lunges, and sit ups are all great examples of resistance exercises that you can do without equipment, and they are all helpful for fast weight loss.

Before I get to that though, I want to let you know which type of exercise will actually hinder your weight loss.

Why Cardio Is Bad For Weight Loss

Most people who are starting to try to lose weight will start to do cardio. They figure if they can run for a little bit on a treadmill at their gym or outside, that they can lose weight, and they are right. The problem is, the weight loss stops fairly soon after you have been running for about a week. Why is that?

That is because cardio is meant to condition our bodies to run farther and for longer periods of time, without getting as tired, fatigued, and sore. This is perfect for athletes and long distance runners because they need to be able to keep going. This is horrible for weight loss though.

In order to lose weight fast, you need to burn fat. This is the fuel that our bodies use when we are working out properly. The problem is, if our bodies become more efficient due to cardio exercises, then our bodies won’t burn as much fat, or any fat at all. Fuel efficiency is great in a car, but when you need to lose weight and burn fat, and that fat is the fuel, you want your body burning as much fat as it can, but cardio will not allow your body to do that. Any exercise is better than no exercises at all, but if you really want to lose weight quickly, then you need to do the right types of exercises.

Strength Training is the Key to Fast Weight Loss

As you can see, burning fat is essential for rapid weight loss, and the best way to burn fat is through strength training exercises. They help to build up the lean muscle mass which assists your body in the fat burning process. Not only does the lean muscle mass help you to burn fat during your exercises, it also helps your body to burn more fat through the day, even when you are not working out. This is how you can turn your body into a fat burning engine.

Using free weights is by far the most popular type of resistance training or strength training exercises to lose weight quickly. You can do a lot of different exercises with dumbbells and barbells, that can tone your upper body quickly. A lot of women don’t want to become big and bulky, so they avoid doing resistance training altogether (and wonder why they aren’t losing weight). You can still lift free weights and get a nice, toned and muscular body without becoming big and bulky. You just need to lift lighter weights and do more repetitions. For men who do prefer to bulk up, you should lift heavier weights for a fewer number of reps. Either way, it is going to build muscle, tone your body, and help you to burn fat which is essential if your goal is to lose weight quickly.

You can also use weight machines, resistance bands, and even your own body weight in order to build up lean muscle mass. All of these strength training exercises are much better than doing cardio, so if y ou want to truly lose weight quickly, then ditch the cardio and stick with strength training exercises and see the awesome fast weight loss results.

Fast Weight Loss Final Thoughts

Fast weight loss is fairly simple. It is definitely going to require hard work, but you’re not going to have to learn a ton of information, it is all right here. A combination of proper nutrition and doing the right type of exercise (resistance training) is what you need to do in order to lose weight fast and have the body that you have always wanted to have.
