Imagine this: You get home after a long, frustrating day at work. You toss your bag away, and take off your shoes before collapsing on the couch. Your body craves excitement but more than that, it craves energy. So you get up and walk to your kitchen in search of the perfect energy surge. You finally find it as you spot your trusty bottle of tea leaves and as you boil the water for that perfect cup. You indulge in the wonderful tea aroma, and instantly, feel like your brain is enveloped in its aromatic goodness. Yes, tea has that effect on many people.

As one of the oldest beverages in the world, tea is the most consumed drink of all, right after water. Used as a medicinal drink during the era of Tang dynasty, tea made its way to the modern ages as a highly useful and effective practice for all those looking for some comfort in their times of need, and whether it was because the drinker was under the weather or simply feeling iffy, tea worked its magic for all.

Physical Effects of Tea

So we all know that tea has caffeine, but have we really ever wondered exactly how beneficial tea can be? Although many of us opt for the best coffee beans to soothe our caffeine cravings, having tea can do a world of good for many. Tea contains ORAC or oxygen radical absorbance capacity and helps in destroying any free radicals which damage our DNA. Tea also contains antioxidants which protect from numerous types of cancers, and although tea has never been a miracle cure, its benefits still give you another reason to have a cuppa.

Contrary to popular belief, tea actually helps those who want to lose weight. According to a study, people who consume tea not only have a lower waist circumference, but also have a lower BMI than those who don’t take tea. However, you have to remember that we are not just talking about a single type of tea. Each has different aspects which help the body in many ways and from improving bone density to being an effective agent against neurological diseases, tea helps in a multi-purpose way. That brings us to…

Mental Effects of Tea

As said in the beginning, even a whiff of tea can cause your brain to immediately relax. Tea is known to have a very famous calming effect because the theanine in the beverage triggers α-waves which in turn generate the feelings of relaxation without any drowsiness involved. Theanine helps in reducing anxiety as well which can obviously be counted as a plus.

Tea also helps in boosting your memory which is probably why many office workers choose to guzzle down some tea instead of a coffee blend when they’re working on a huge project. Since tea is the perfect combination of a being a stress reliever while also being a caffeinated beverage, it gives you just the right balance of energy. Along with that, since tea helps in the production of new brain cells, it aids in keeping your brain active. Theanine, which is the real hero for your mental health is chock-full in tea and with its many effects facilitates in not only enhancing your cognitive performance among other things, it keeps you happy, relaxed and active.

Tea for many is seen as the complete package. And with companies such as Flavours Place providing all types of tea from around the world for their customers, tea drinkers are rejoicing over the fact that tea itself actually exists, as it is said perfectly in this quote by Sydney Smith:

“Thank God for tea! What would the world do without tea! How did it exist? I am glad I was not born before tea.”
