The Partnership Between Government and NGOs to Improve Public Education

by Avadhesh Sharma SEO Analyst

Statistics says for every thousand underprivileged people one NGO is working and trying to promote equality. Has it always been an area where NGOs have tried and helped poor people? Well, the answer to this is not that simple. Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of ‘voluntary organisation’ is the one that later transformed into what we call NGOs.

Taking the Upfront

Speak of any developmental work and philanthropic as well as charitable thing we can only remember two things the Government and the NGOs. Today’s scenario for the NGOs is not that hostile as it has been just after independence.

Soon after the independence, there were not enough resources and NGOs were primarily busy serving their motives. With the refugee crisis occasional wars with the neighbouring country and often cutting out the food supply line, there was enough turmoil that the NGO had to deal with. Howsoever they failed to manage properly because of their low monetary supply and also lack of organisational strength. This condition gradually started going south and with the innovation of technology and medical facilities the NGOs got some time to consolidate their organisational strengths and today the youth is making a huge difference by contributing to this philanthropic cause. Wherever Government falls short it is the NGOs that are taking the place.

Organisational Strength and Going Beyond

NGO’s stands for Non-Governmental Organisation, which means that there had been no government intervention in their cause. However, it is not always sufficient as well as possible for neither the Government to work independently nor the NGOs can do so. In recent years the NGOs have had their wings such as Education Ngo, Health Ngo and many more.

This makes these two organisations contemporary to each other. In recent years where the youth of the country is actively participating in the NGOs, the Government have also got a chance to pull the youth into Governance through several Programmes. These Programmes have ranged from supplying copies to the underprivileged to supplying blankets in remote villages. These initiatives have been either taken by the organisation or by Government and there is a share in each part as in manpower and funding as well as marketing. All these coupled together makes the initiative complete.

The Remarkable Ones

There had been several Education NGOs and some of the well-known are as follows:

1. Bhumi- known as largest Non- profit organisation volunteered by the Youth, BHUMI started in the year 2006 by some of the passionate friends who came together in order to help the underprivileged. Since then BHUMI has been engaged in achieving equality and have touched many lives throughout their journey.

2. Bachpan Bachao Andolon- Founded by Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi this organisation was founded to save the poor children from child abuse and to save them from the clutches of Child Labour and to give them a beautiful childhood. This organisation has been instrumental in achieving its goals through various programmes.

3. Child Rights and You (CRY)- Founded by a group of Friends this organisation have also been instrumental in achieving a lot since it’s inception. Starting with only Rs 50 to being one of the most well known NGO. CRY has been a link between the common people willing to donate for the cause and people who need these donations desperately.

There had been several other organisations that have made an impact in the lives of people and have helped them with resources.

Since these have turned out to be an indicator of well being and have contributed to the National index of development hence the Government in recent years are trying to collaborate with NGOs and work with them. However, there had been several instances where the NGOs have tried to work independently and have not taken government intervention very nicely.

Hence there are all sorts of the problem but focussing on the brighter sides we can say that there had been several instances where the partnership between an NGO and the Government have been a successful one.
