Security cameras are used for two things-investigation and deterrence. The visuals that you collect from security cameras can, more than often, be used to review a crime or accident to help understand what really happened. However, the cameras themselves have a deterrent value and people who know the cameras are there, are usually on their best behavior.

While a security company can help you with surveillance installation in Calgary, it is essential that you yourself are able to identify the primary spots where cameras should be placed.

Entrance and Exits

Entrance and exit doors present the best opportunity to view and record facial

images that can potentially be used for identification purposes. However, in order to capture a useful ID image, your security camera should be set to view an area at least three feet wide-that’s the width of an average door.

You need to be especially careful when installing cameras that point towards exterior doors. As the door is opened, a sudden change in light can make the visuals go all black. Instead of a capturing the images, it might give you a dark outline of the person instead. In many cases, it is a lot easier monitoring an exit door. This is because the lighting here is more even, as the camera is facing away from the outside light.

On the other hand, placing a television of monitor near an entrance can help you capture accurate facial images as people walking in will naturally look at the screen.

Transaction Points

There should also be security cameras placed at the points of customer transactions. This includes teller stations, cash registers, and kiosks. These points are mostly next to entrance and exits and give you the best chance to capture investigative images. Make sure you keep these cameras at least 7 feet high and pointed directly at the spot of transactions. If you end up mounting these cameras too high, you will just see the top of the heads.

Secluded Areas

Parking areas and back alleys are secluded areas where most criminal activities

take place; this is the reason why you need cameras here. The images you capture here can be useful for investigating violence and vandalism. Here, the deterrent value of your cameras also comes into action. Seeing a camera record each of their movements, potential perpetrators think twice about committing criminal activity.

Whatever security services you choose for surveillance installation in Calgary, make sure it helps cover areas like entrances, exits, transaction points and secluded areas. This way you will capture visuals that can prove helpful in the future. Click here for more information.
