We all expect great things from the next iPhone. But rumor has it that it might be more different than we expect. In fact, it is being suggested that it might be unlike anything unveiled by the Cupertino giant. Okay, Apple… if you didn’t have our attention before (you did), now you do. According to sources, the iPhone 7S that is expected to be released in 2017 will be designed to come enclosed in an all-glass body. If you’re wondering about the credibility of the source, it is as good as it gets. KGI Securities analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, who is one of the most reliable Apple sources for leaks and spoilers, has revealed that the 2017 iPhone would be inspired by Apple’s past, when it dabbled in glass enclosures for some batches of the iPhone 4 back in 2010.

Kuo, who often provides Apple related information to investors, was first reported to tease the information by the Apple-centric website, 9to5Mac. He has accurately predicted a lot of details in the past, including some features of the iPhone SE, prior to its release This is also true for a lot of other Apple products. So if you want to follow the Apple rumor-mill, Kuo is the person to keep an eye on.. It must be noted here that the iPhone SE has been met with a positive feedback, with many using content transfer apps to conveniently move to the mid-sized device.

As mentioned before, Apple has ventured into the glass enclosure territory before… with little success. The company had used it for the iPhone 4, but with a metallic spine in order to reinforce the design. Unfortunately, the design was vulnerable and easily cracked upon falling. This prompted the company to revert to an all metallic design.

Going by Kuo’s track record, if one is to believe the information, it must be assumed that Apple has now come up with a means of designing an entirely glass-based device that is not as prone to breakage. Of course, Kuo did not go into the details of exactly how the company is going to accomplish this, but that is a very valid expectation, should the design change be executed.

According to SmartIO and Kuo , the design change will be seen in the iPhone 7S, not the iPhone 7, which is slated for release later this year. This is one of the bits of the information that is being met with a little bit of skepticism. As many know, Apple does not introduce any major design changes in its “S” versions. The design changes are introduced in the newly branded devices, while the S versions basically provide minor internal/functionality upgrades. So what do you think? How do you feel about an all-glass iPhone?
