Some owners avoid walking their dogs, simply because they think of it as a chore and are annoyed by it. This is wrong because dog-walking is not only a way for your pet to dispose of some excess energy, and get along with the environment, but also acts a great exercise and does wonders when it comes to keeping them fit.

Regular dog walks ensure that your pet remains healthy and does not react in an irrational and absurd manner. As a dog walker, Chicago I've noticed some owners don't know how to walk their dogs properly, thus here are some tips that I've employed during my work that have led to excellent dog walking.

Walk in Front of Your Dog

While most owners prefer staying back and letting their dog decide where to go, it's not a bad idea to walk in front of them as then, you'll be seen as the pack leader. Your dog can either be behind or beside you when walking, but you should always be in the front.

Use a Short and Comfortable Leash

Your dog's leash must be short, and not too tight, so that your dog feels comfortable and can enjoy his time walking with you. If the leash is not of the correct length, it can lead to disturbances while walking, which can be a hindrance in the walking experience.

Choose the Correct Time

Walking in the morning is ideal, as your pet will be more energetic during this time and will most likely be reluctant to do it later in the day. Walks should generally be around 30minutes to an hour long, however this duration can differ from dog to dog, depending on their energy level. If unsure about your dog's energy level, it is recommended to consult a vet.

 Reward Your Pet

Always reward your pet for walks, so they feel happy and want to engage in walking in future as well. This can be a good way to get lazy and enthusiastic dogs to go on regular walks as well. Rewards can lead from games, to snacks that your dog really enjoys. Most of the time, it is also recommended to give your dog a good meal after they've come back from a walk, to re-energize them and give them the proper breakfast or lunch that they need.

Overall, walking your pet should be an easy task, as long as you keep a few tips handy and don't make any mistakes. The pace of walking should generally be slower, unless your dog is in an excited mood. Becoming friends with other dog owners can also allow you to initiate group walks so your pet can find good friends to play with.

As a dog walker, Chicago it feels disheartening to see so many owners not give importance to regular dog walks as it really has a terrible effect on your pet if you don't give them proper and regular exercise. Thus, we should always strive to set aside just a few minutes each day to ensure our pet remains healthy and fit.
