Card phenol or popularly known as cardanol has been produced from cashew nut shell liquid or CNSL. It is also called a monohydroxyl phenol which possesses a lengthy hydrocarbon chain in a Meta position. Card phenol has been used at a large scale for the manufacturing of surface coating, altering varnishes, for lamination, pesticides, dyes, epoxy, and oil-soluble resins, etc.

Card phenol can be defined as light brownish or yellowish liquid which is produced from cashew nut shell liquid. Many people also call it cashew phenol. The specific molecular shape of card phenol, in particular, the unsaturation of big hydrocarbon said chain can easily make the cross-linking an easy task on polymerization. Other than the side chain imparting hydrophobic nature to the polymer, the coating given by card phenol has proved to be highly water-resistant and offer resistance from weather-related changes.

Some of the prominent uses and properties of card phenol are as follows-

The card phenol based resins offer an amazing resistance to the several mild actions of mineral oil. It offers great resistance to alkalies, insects, acid alkalies etc.

It helps in boosting the flexibility, drying, robust electric insulation qualities and thermal firmness.

The several qualities of card phenol have made cardanol a strong substitute for the petroleum-based phenol.

Card phenol has been used in several applications that may include lamination, surface coating, and painting, lamination, electrical insulation, varnishes, surface coating, painting, pesticides, rubber compounding etc.

Card phenol has turned out to be highly suitable for the production of Novolac and Resol Resins. When it is used with the acid catalyst and approximately one mole of formaldehyde is reacted with one mole of card phenol only then Novolac resins are produced. These resins have emerged as highly flexible and cannot be toughened by heat. Meanwhile, resole resins are produced by reacting approximately one mole of formaldehyde and one mole of cardanol in the existence of alkaline catalyst. These resins can be toughened by heat and finally changes to insoluble gel.

Card phenol generally highlights the most active components of CNSL and here it is present in the form of anacardic acid. The films produced with the help of card phenol based resins have been quite popular for their top electrical qualities. In order to boost the color and hardness, other phenols such as carbolic acid, para tertiary butyl phenol are generally added to cardanol in several components.

Therefore, we can conclude here that card phenol manufacturers can be accessed online without any inconvenience. By adopting the ethical business practices and competitive pricing policies, the manufacturers of card phenol can attain a reputable position in the market.
