The Different Types of Car Insurance

by Kevin Smith Author

Shopping for car insurance is one of those necessary evils that everyone has to do, but nobody really enjoys. It’s something that you have to have, but when it comes down to choosing which insurance you really need, it can be overwhelming to make the right choice because you don’t want to get stuck paying for insurance coverage that you don’t need, but you certainly don’t want to not have the minimum coverage that you do need. Below is some information on the different types of coverage you can choose when shopping for car insurance in San Diego, and why they might be the right fit for you.

Collision

Collision insurance is important because it covers your car in the event that it is damaged. Whether through fault of your own, or through the fault of another person who may not have insurance. You want to make sure that you have collision insurance if the value of your car is high, or if it’s a newer vehicle that you’re still making payments on, because it’s the only way to guarantee that your car gets fixed in the event that it is damaged in an accident.

Liability

Liability insurance is probably the most important coverage that you can carry, because this protects you in the event that you do damage to someone else’s car. With liability insurance, you are covering your assets in case you get sued by another driver, and you’re making sure that the money that you pay out of pocket for repairs is minimal. This insurance can also cover you for different amounts, depending on the amount of assets that you may need to keep secure in the event that you get sued for an accident in which you were at fault.

Comprehensive

Comprehensive insurance is the type of auto insurance that protects your regardless of whether or not you are in an accident. That means that if something happens to you car when it’s parked, like a tree falls on it, for example, or your car is stolen or vandalized, you are still covered to have it fixed or replaced. Comprehensive coverage is great for people who want to ensure that no matter what happens to their vehicle, they don’t have to worry about paying out of pocket for repairs. Choosing the right car insurance in San Diego can be a tough decision, but considering all your options is a great place to start.
