The Concept and Importance of Injection Moulding
The
concept of mold and molding is quite pervasive in so many industries. As
per definition, molding is a process of manufacturing
by which liquid or pliable new material gets a rigid shape which is commonly
known as mold. But its significance is more in Plastic industries. Molding is
considered as a common phenomenon in molding industries. The most positive
feature of this molding is it offers flexibility in formation of complex
designs. Injection moulding is the most common modern method of manufacturing
plastic parts.
Injection
molding is of course a highly technical process. Hence a proper systematic study
based on the scientific approach is highly essential. At the same time the
points like its budget, expertise and resources should be taken care of
properly. From manufacturer’s point of view, it is also very much important to
choose the most convenient process out of the so many molding processes is
available. In order to
form injection mould, the common raw
materials like metals, glasses, elastomers,
confections, and most commonly thermoplastic and thermosetting polymers are
used. At first the industrial designer makes the desired design and accordingly
the mold maker creates the mold. Then mechanically the part is fed into a
heated barrel, mixed, and forced into a mould cavity, where it cools and
hardens to get the exact configuration.
