Our
Third stop in Europe and Second in Austria was at Flowing Arts Academy,
a great gym with great atmosphere and culture that focuses on teaching
movement and flexibility to competitors and non competitors in
Klagenfurt Area, and also offers Brazilian JiuJitsu classes.
Sampa graduated black belt instructor Martin Guggi is the founder and
responsible to teach safe and legit Brazilian jiujitsu as well ginastica
natural and movement, athletes and non athletes, and make sure sampa
style of teaching is passed along.
Prof. Renato taught a great 3 hours seminar for over flowing arts
students and attendees. We had a great time. This time we did not have
much Students changing belts but at the seminar alone they’ve learned
takedowns, guard passes, submissions and transitions.
The Flowing Arts Academy of Martial Arts in Vienna
Anyone who likes to have fun while exercising andbelieves in discipline and hard work is warmly greeted at the Flowing Arts academy in Klagenfurt,
Vienna. The academy situated in the heart of the city is known for the
Brazilian martial art form of Jiu Jitsu and grappling techniques. The
main motto of the school is to promote physical fitness and athleticism
to all its students who practice in the academy for hours. The academy
invests time and effort in improving its students to becoming world’s
class professional athletes and hence it requires the right students who
can train and improve through martial arts rules and discipline.
Martin Guggi the founder member of this academy. He learnt much of this
art form during his stay in California at Sampa BJJ academy and began
teachingit to students there. He has a Masters in physical education and
is a great supporter of this art form. He returned back to Austria and
with the help of his friends and training partners decided that it was
time to give back to his people in the country. He started the Flowing
Arts academy in the summer of 2012 in Klagenfurt, Austria. The Brazilian
Jiu Jitsu or BJJ as its popularly known was unheard of in Austria.
Martin studied Brazilian JiuJitsu at Sampabjj in California, received
professional andintensivecoaching and returned to Austria to share his
passion with his students.
Techniques learnt at the Academy
Guard pass, Drills for the guard pass, passing the de la riva guard and
the spider guard, submissions from side control, bow and arrow choke,
attacks from the back.
The Belts
Students begin with the White belt as they are new to the art from. The
Blue belt is given to a student who has been regularly praticsingthe
art form for around 2 years. The Purple belt is the intermediate ranking
and one has to stay for 1.5 – 2 years in the blue belt whilst
regularly practicing the moves. The Brown Belt is considered as the
highest ranking of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and requires at least 5 years of
intensive training to acquireit. The Black and the Red belts
denote superior technical and practical skill and are awarded to
dedicated and lifelong practitioners.
The students in the Academy believe that is is great to become a
champion but it is difficult to become a great human being. This martial
art form teaches discipline, mental agility and physical aggression to
tackle and take control of his opponent. The Flowing Arts academy also
teaches Athletic arts, which is a fitness and workout program to promote
agility and flexibility.
