The Biggest Signs that You Should Replace Your Countertops

by Kevin Smith Author

Countertops are an important investment for your kitchen and bathrooms. They significantly affect the look, feel, and functionality of these rooms. Thankfully, the countertops installation cost in Atlanta is affordable enough to make upgrading well worth the investment. So how do you know if you should replace your countertops. Look to the following signs that your current product just isn't holding up.

They're Damaged

Etching on marble, cracked granite, scratched tile, and other flaws can make you entire kitchen or bathroom appear to be in a state of disrepair. These glaring flaws can overshadow how valuable the material may have been. It may have been an accident, like leaving something hot on a stone surface long enough that it discolored the surface. Maybe you've been neglecting to keep them clean, and food acids have stained the surface. Whatever the cause may be, the only worthwhile solution is to upgrade to a hardier surface.

They're Outdated

Your kitchen and bathrooms are some of the most important rooms in your home. They dramatically effect the value of your home, possible more than any other room. The return on investment is famously high for work done to improve either the kitchen or bathrooms. How can you maximize your returns? Invest in better appliances, fixtures, and countertops. You can easily paint the walls and built-ins, too. But starting with better, more stylish countertops will be a major improvement. Natural stone materials like granite and marble are always in-style, so look to these classic materials first.

They're Manufactured

Most manufactured countertops options are inferior to natural stone, the exception being quartz. Quartz countertops are technically manmade but contain real pieces of crushed natural quartz, which is the reason they're so long-lasting and beautiful. But other manmade countertops materials, like linoleum, laminate, ceramic tile, and solid surface--a fake alternative to natural stone, fall behind their competition. These materials are short-lived, show flaws easily, and cannot handle the rigors of everyday cooking. For instance, linoleum and laminate surfaces are non-heat-resistant, scratch easily, and cannot bear the weight of small appliances and other objects you may place on your countertops.

If you're to invest in new countertops, start shopping at a local supplier who can customize countertops for your home. Or, if you want to get the best countertops installation cost in Atlanta, look for pre-fabricated slabs that are easy to take home and slide in place.
