The Betel Leaf and The Bengali wedding Planner

Pre- wedding rituals and traditions

Adan Pradan

In these rituals, the couple accepts each other as there would be life partner and then both the families sit with a priest to study the horoscope of the couples and finally exchanges gifts after the priest gives an approval.

Ashirwad

This ritual signifies the acceptance of the bride and the groom by their respective in-laws. Both the parties visit the houses of the bride and the groom to shower their blessings on the couple and gift them gold ornaments.

Vridhi Puja

This ritual is done to remember and take the blessing of the couple's ancestors. 
Aai Budo Bhaat
It is simply the night when the bride has the last meal in their parent’s house before marriage. Here different delicacies are cooked as per the bride’s choice and served to her by her family members.

Gae Halud Tattva

In this ceremony the bride is sent some gifts from her in-law's end which includes sarees, make up products, curd, fish, husked rice, beetle leaf, sweets, haldi and many more things.

Dodhi Mongol

The ritual is performed on the dawn of the wedding day in both the parties’ house. In this ceremony, the couple is accompanied by few married women to the pond, where they take blessing from goddess Ganga and brings a pitcher of water from the pond. Once they come home they are given to have curd and Chira as they have to fast till the marriage is over.

Holud Kota and snan ritual

From here the occasion is arranged by the wedding planners as the marriage ceremony starts. It is similar to the haldi rasam of North India. In this five to seven married woman apply the turmeric paste and oil to the bride and the groom and then they take their bath and wear new clothes.

Sankha Porna

In this ritual the married women make the bride wear conch shell white bangles followed by red bangles and gets ready for the marriage ceremony.

Bor jatri

Saat paak

This is the attraction of the Bengali wedding where the bride sits on stool covering her face with the sacred beetle leaves. She is then carried by her brothers and uncle to the Mandap where they take seven rounds around the groom.

Subho dristi and Mala Bodal

After taking the rounds the bride removes the beetle leaves and the couple exchanges their looks and the garlands three times.

Marriage rituals

The marriage is performed with full rite and rituals followed by sindoor dan and the marriage are over.

Post marriage rituals

Bidaai

After the marriage rituals are over the bride bids farewell to her family and leaves for her new house, where she is welcomed by her in- laws.

Bou bhaat

Here the groom’s family organizes a get together where the bride is introduced to the family members and the close friends and relatives. After this ritual, the room and the bed of the couple are decorated with flowers as it will be the first night together as husband and wife. Hence, with this, the ceremony comes to an end.
