The Basics in Patient Breast Surgery Preparation
As you prepare for breast surgery in
Tacoma, WA, it is important to make sure you cover all your bases, starting two
weeks out. Not making sure everything is taken care of means you will have to
deal with stuff when you return home. You do not want to have to do that. Here
is a short list of stuff that may not make the cut in terms of stuff to do to
get ready for your surgery.
Arrange for Transportation and 48 Hours of Care
That might seem like a lot, but when you
return home, you will be on pain killers in all likelihood and still be
miserable. Everything will be uncomfortable. You cannot drive because of the
medicine in your system. You will not want to drive because of the discomfort
it will cause.
You must have someone with you at all times
for at least the first 24 hours after surgery and preferably, the first 48 to
72 hours. Many people opt to stay in a hotel because of convenience. If that is
your situation, consider splurging for a suite, which will make it easier for
you to sleep through the first three days after and give the person taking care
of you the ability to get a little break.
Arrangements for the Kids and Pets
Basically, if you can send both away for up
to a week after your surgery, the better it will be for everyone. If not, be
prepared. You will feel miserable and your kids will want to see you. Your pets
will be, well, your pets. Getting away from the stress of either will help in
your recovery, which is why you should consider a hotel once your hospital stay
is over.
Arrange for Your Pharma
Whether you have help or not, you do not
want to be waiting for any medicine. Ask your doctor to prescribe it beforehand
and pick it up the day before your surgery. Arrange it per the instructions so
that the person administering them to you do not have to think about what
gets taken when.
One suggestion is to do research before
your surgery, above and beyond your doctor’s word, into any possible side
effects or conflicts with other medication. Assume you will experience the
worst side effects short of needing hospitalization or death. Plan to address
those side effects accordingly when and if they kick in.
These are the basics in prepping for your breast
surgery in Tacoma, WA. A good rule of thumb is to take a few
days before the big day and try and think every process and situation you will
encounter through, making arrangements for each before they occur.
