Time: Friday, October 18, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Location: Carriage House in Santa Ynez Historical Museum, 3596 Sagunto St, Santa Ynez

“I am so excited that Taste of the Santa Ynez Valley will give visitors the opportunity to learn about wines from Happy Canyon of Santa Barbara. Many people aren’t familiar with this AVA because it is so new, but it is such an exciting appellation for wine lovers to explore,” says Greg Martellotto. “Santa Barbara County typically produces cooler climate grapes like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Happy Canyon produces great Bordeaux varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon.”

During the Deep Dive event, Matt Kettmann and a panel of experts will discuss why Happy Canyon and Santa Ynez AVAs produce such exciting wines. Matt is the Editor for Wine Enthusiast Magazine and The Independent.

Happy Canyon sits at the eastern edge of the Santa Barbara County wine region where temperatures are higher. The wide swing of temperatures between day and night allows Happy Canyon to produce Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc that outshine better known wine regions. Wines from here are delicious yet under-rated.

The Grand Tasting takes a different approach with a “Walk-About” Tasting. During this event visitors will learn about the wines and producers from Happy Canyon of Santa Barbara and Santa Ynez appellations.

In Happy Canyon Bordeaux varietals grow extremely well. Wines from here rival those from more famous California wine regions. Learn about the Bordeaux varietals from this special AVA: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot.
