Take Off Your Shoes and Lead a Healthy Lifestyle

Imagine this! You spend a March evening planning your activities for the following day as you wind down for the night. A few hours later, the alarm on your nightstand rings, and because you desperately want those few extra minutes of sleep, you hit the snooze button a few times. You roll out of bed after a struggle with your subconscious. You walk barefoot over to your sink, wash up, brush your teeth, and then get dressed for the day by donning that suit with a tie, blouse, or dress. You notice that time is passing quickly and that you should leave right away.

Do You Have Your Shoes?

You dash out the door and take a quick look around as you wait for the bus, train, or to pick up a package at the UPS office. Your attention is drawn to the shoe shmorgasbord that is all around you. ankle socks and a pair of running sneakers. A pair of worn-out, battered work boots are placed next to it, flanked by a pair of jeans. A lady's legs appeared to have been dipped in a bottle of indian ink while she was wearing stockings and a pair of elegant high heel boots. Your toes begin to bend as you change your stance, and as soon as your heel softly and unhindered touches the cool pavement, you realize something is not quite right—yet it feels exactly right.

Finally, you force yourself to look down, and much to your surprise, you notice that there is nothing between your bare soles and the ground except for your toes. When the woman sitting next to you casually inquires, "forgot your shoes?" you are briefly brought back to reality before telling yourself it is all in your head.

You tell yourself it can't be as you look down once more. Your toes, however, are staring up at you. Your foot senses the colder pavement beneath as it encounters reality. You raise one foot and turn it inward to reveal your bare sole, which has turned black from being without shoes since the previous evening. 

You put your bare foot down again and turn to look at your surroundings when you notice that everyone's attention is focused on your bare feet, which is quite unusual. Some people are chuckling, others are shocked, and others are simply smiling.Your feet are bare, without even a pair of socks or the most basic shoes, like flip flops! You have the impression of being in one of those nightmares where everyone around you is dressed but you are naked.

You might react by grabbing the side of your head in shock and saying, "OMG! I'm shocked that I neglected to put on my shoes and socks. How did I go the entire time without shoes?

If you are close enough to rush into your shoes and socks, you are prepared to panic and run home. In order to avoid being seen "GASP" barefoot, you must accept the fact that you are somewhat naked if you are already far from home. You must remain in your bare feet as you mentally search for the first possible reason why you will be late for your job or interview.

Now, relax; it's highly unlikely that this will ever happen to you given how common it is for people to put on shoes before leaving their homes.

But let's assume it did. You experience yet another emotion. You chuckle and give a knowing nod to those nearby as if to say, "Hey, look at that. On a chilly winter day, I'm not wearing shoes. It might even be enjoyable, and you might take pleasure in the fact that, while others are wrapped in clothing and have their feet covered in shoes and socks, you are here feeling complete freedom as you feel the cool ground beneath your bare feet.

I am sure I do. I get asked frequently if I forgot my shoes. Since I rarely, if ever, wear shoes or socks, the question is frequently irrelevant.

The answer is sometimes yes because I'm so used to walking around with nothing on my feet that on the rare occasions when I think that wearing shoes might give a good impression, I'll forget to pack my shoes and show up to my appointments or meetings barefoot.

But instead of freaking out, I find myself excited as I look forward to another day of leading a healthy lifestyle in my dependable bare feet and carry out the tasks I had planned for the day.

As a Healthy Lifestyle, going barefoot

How many of you guys enjoy kicking off your shoes and removing your socks when you get home from a long day at work? And ladies in those uncomfortable heels, what a relief it is to take those hose off and relieve your feet of that constricted feeling! You must feel brand-new the moment your bare soles touch the carpet or floor and start to breathe.

How about those times you rush to be the first person to take off your shoes before heading to the park or the beach so you can feel the cool grass under your soles or the crashing waves between your toes? It's energizing, right?

Imagine feeling that relief continuing throughout the day. Without any restrictions, your toes, arches, and heels can happily spread out and breathe. There is no need to run around or wait until you get home to return your feet to their natural state, which is bare, after spending nearly ten hours nonstop at work. Just picture yourself experiencing that all day. Imagine being in that blissful state for several days at a time, if you can imagine that.

No need to worry if you haven't imagined it; I don't either because, to begin with, I hardly ever wear any kind of footwear. I can now actually experience what it's like to live a barefoot healthy lifestyle by letting my bare soles make continuous, uninterrupted contact with every surface!
