Sustainable Urban Transport Project to Be the Way Forward for Atal Nagar
by Swapnil Jukunte Search Engine Marketing and Optimization CompanyTalk about developing a utopian city in
India and Atal Nagar is the first name to crop up in mind. Being developed as
India’s first Greenfield smart cities, one of its first highlights is the
implementation of Sustainable Urban Transport Project. Undertaken as a part of NUTP,
this sustainable transport project aims to provide efficient mobility to people
in the city, while being environmentally sustainable.
With Indian transportation being a major
contributor to the rising air pollution level, Government of India recognised
changing the transportation system as the need of the hour. Since Atal Nagar is
one of the first cities to be developed on the model of smart city project in
India, it is an apt choice for implementing the sustainable transportation plan.
The
integrated transportation plan
Until now, the administration of city
transportation is done through different modal administration agencies like city
bus services, metro corporations, etc. However, the sustainable transport
project in Atal Nagar will be controlled and managed through an integration of the
environment with public transportation. It will also reflect an integration of
different modes of transport in the city.
This project is a combination of smart
transportation infrastructure, smart control, advanced solutions for IT along
with high security and safety for commuters.
The installation of an integrated Command
and Control Center is to ensure smart surveillance, transportation and citizen
application.
Sustainable
Urban Transport Project and Its Ideology
The project implementation is on two basic
ideologies that aims to aid in sustainable growth of Atal Nagar.
·
User-friendly roads and lower pollution
Atal Nagar’s development plan is to make it
a future IT hub catering to nation-wide industrial needs. Thus, this city is
expected to be a thriving centre of job opportunities which will drive a huge population
to settle there.
Given this, NRDA aims to provide the people
with a sustainable commuting system while implementing this smart city project
in India. It can efficiently serve the conveyance needs of a growing population
without causing harm to the environment. It will make roads less congested and polluted
through the construction of dedicated cycling lanes. It will also be employing vehicles
with low GHG emissions for the purpose.
·
Improved communication through a reduction travel cost
Before the project implementation, it was
difficult to take up intra or inter-city travel for residents in and around
Atal Nagar. Since a majority of the population around it presently comprises
rural people, their employment chances are affected by the availability of effective
transportation.
To address this, NRDA has fixed a low bus
fare for city travel. Besides, the cycling lanes mentioned above stretch up to
the surrounding rural areas to provide for easy and convenient commuting.
Other noted features of this Sustainable
Urban Transport Project that will
pave the way for a sustainable city include –
·
A pre-booking facility for bus
travel that will contain any rush or congestion.
·
Notification about bus timings,
bus stops and other related information through a public announcement system.
·
Monitoring of routes through
the GPRS vehicle tracking system.
These striking features of sustainable
urban transportation pave the way for Atal Nagar to become a self-sustaining,
environment-friendly city. It will, thus, be a significant contributor to realising
the smart city project.
