Suitable Surfaces for Installing Resin Bound Aggregates

by YRC T. The No1 choice for the professional installer

Are you fed up of looking out the window to see a dull and cracked driveway? Perhaps each time you arrive home you are welcomed by a bumpy parking experience? Old driveways quickly become difficult and unpleasant to manage, especially for families with children or elderly relatives.

Resin bound aggregates and Resin Bond Kits are an easy and excellent way of bringing all driveways up to modern standards, but do you have the right surface for installation?

Bring Your Driveway Up to Date with Resin Bound Aggregates

Resin bound kits make it easy to update even the oldest and ugliest driveway. The smooth surface is perfect for cars, pushchairs, wheelchairs, mobility scooters, bikes and little feet. If this sounds ideal for your requirements, you will first need to consider your current driveway surface and decide if you need to make any changes.

It may be necessary for pre-installation work to take place to ensure the whole process is as smooth as possible and ultimately successful. Below are three suitable surfaces that will work beautifully with resin bound kits. Choose one of these and you will have perfect results!

Tarmac is the Ideal Base for Resin Bound Aggregates

If you have an old tarmac driveway, you’ll be happy to hear that tarmac is a brilliant sub base for your new resin driveway. The tarmac does need to be a suitable depth to support the weight of the resin bound kit. You can use the sub base of tarmac whether it’s new or old – just as long as it is thoroughly cleaned and levelled out beforehand.

Concrete and Resin Bound Aggregates

Concrete is another suitable surface for installing resin bound aggregates. The concrete will be strong enough to support the resin, but it will need to be prepared properly. The preparation of concrete involves cleaning it well, leaving it to dry and prepping with a polymer primer. The primer will ensure the resin adheres to the concrete and will stop the two surfaces from delaminating over time.

Eco Grid Systems and Resin Bound Kits

Another surface that will work well with resin bound kits is an eco-grid system. This will be costlier than the previous two options. The cost increases as the amount of resin required increases too, when using eco grid systems as the sub base.

Resin bound aggregates and Resin Mixers make perfect driveways and pathways for the home. Ensure you have the right base before work begins!
