Suggestion and tips for men’s blazer: Ablaze them!

by RAJ KAMAL Technology, Travel,Health & Medical

The blazer is a great way to add a whole new range of outfits by pairing them with anything from a pair of jeans to a different colored trouser like the gentleman has done on the right. The great versatility of the men’s blazer really shines when you have to go to more than one place in a day and don’t feel like running home to change.

Blazers are such a versatile item to have in your apparel arsenal, they’re the perfect addition to almost any outfit to really pull a look together. The fit, colour, and material will have an impact on its formality, as will the trousers, shoes and accessories you choose to wear with it. Wearing jeans with a blazer is a classic combination that’s perfect for achieving a stylish, smart casual look suitable for dinners, dates and some workplaces. Basically, any other occasion that requires a little more finesse than the usual T-Shirt and jeans combo.

Details of the Men’s Blazer

The first detail, albeit obvious, to note is that the blazer is not part of a suit. Never try to wear similar coloured trousers with your business suits, the two garments won’t be cut from the same fabric and there is always a slight difference in texture or shade.

This is a guide to the men’s blazer and its wonderful versatility.

How long should a blazer be?

The length of your blazer will dictate how “balanced” your upper body is to your lower body. The blazer should end around mid to lower crotch. Mid-crotch if you’re under 5ft 9inches, lower than that if you’re taller than 5′ 9″. A tailor can shorten your jacket up to an inch without messing up its proportions, but they can never really let much out because there’s no fabric there. Overall, you generally want this part to already be perfect when you’re buying a blazer, even off the rack.

How to Wear a Blazer

Before we delve into the realm of what trousers, shoes and accessories to wear to create the perfect smart casual look, we must first discuss the casual blazer itself. There are so many different styles out there to choose from, it can sometimes be difficult to differentiate between what is a blazer, a sports coat or a suit jacket. Luckily we’re here to help you figure out the differences.

Body

With the top button fastened (never the bottom button), the blazer should lightly hug your midsection, but not feel tight or constricting. It shouldn’t be pulling at the button, creating an ugly “X”. The X mean’s it’s too tight. If it’s roomy around your stomach/waist area, you can (and should!) have a tailor take in the sides of the jacket so it fits properly. This is a very easy and common fix for a tailor to do. Remember: For tailoring purposes, it’s better to have a jacket that’s slightly too big in the body than too small.

Choose wisely and a blazer can be the hardest working item in your wardrobe. Perfect for smartening up a casual outfit, while also offering a less formal look than a traditional suit jacket. Yet many men often don't know where to start and end up with ill-fitting blazers and a mishmash of colours with their outfit choices. The blazer, in its essence, will always be considered as a slightly more formal option, adding a certain sharpness to an outfit. If you’re thinking about wearing one casually then check out our guide to see how it’s done. Ablaze them with your blazer look!
