Style up Your Walls with Safe Electrical Sockets
AC power plugs and their corresponding
sockets have become the mainstay of our lives today. Every aspect including our
social behavior is governed by the availability of sockets. This dependence
stems from the extensive use of battery charged gadgets and other devices that
we use today like mobiles, laptops etc.
Of course the importance of sockets and
AC plugs was known to man since the time electricity was discovered. Sockets
help us to attach the various everyday devices that we use like the TV,
refrigerator, AC, heater, geyser etc., to the main power line. It is through
these sockets that plugs are able to tap into the main power line and draw the
required amperes of electricity for the functioning of the various devices.
But while in the past, we would hardly
pay any attention to the type or design of the sockets used, today the
situation is different. With the introduction of a variety of design the
utility and aesthetics of the sockets have undergone a definite change. Hence
many different types of sockets are used today. Some of the main types of
sockets used which help to ease out our lives are:
·
Universal types: The universal
sockets are a great help for people who are always travelling from one
place to another. These sockets are universally adapted to mostly all the
different types of plugs available across the world. Thus these sockets free
the user from having to use different adapters for the gadgets that they carry
to the different destinations they visit, both globally and nationally. But
these universal sockets have to be properly used to make them safe.
· Plug types: Across the world today, there are roughly 15 different types of plugs in use. Each of these uses a different type of socket to connect to the main electrical power supply. These plug sockets are so designed that they can be used along with different types of plugs to:
o Reduce their effective installation cost,
o Save space and
o Increase their effectiveness.
· Shuttered types: These shuttered sockets are the safest and one of the most popular types of sockets in use today. This is because they:
o Help to prevent any accidental contact of the user with the live terminals,
o Are available in a variety of colours like white, black, cream, grey etc.,
o Come in both twin and single variants and
o Can be either horizontally or vertically mounted on walls as per convenience.
Electrical systems, however, differ from
place to place both in the voltage passing through it and also in the variety
of electrical outlets used. Hence, in order to make these systems safe, it
becomes necessary to cover the outlets or sockets up with electric
socket covers when not in use. This becomes especially necessary if
there are kids around for they are unaware of the dangers of touching a live
electrical wire and find the socket outlets interesting places to put their
fingers in.
· Plug types: Across the world today, there are roughly 15 different types of plugs in use. Each of these uses a different type of socket to connect to the main electrical power supply. These plug sockets are so designed that they can be used along with different types of plugs to:
o Reduce their effective installation cost,

Today sockets are the most widely used electrical equipment's and care should be taken to ensure that all safety precautions associated with it are taken. Only then will we be able to make safe and maximum use of these sockets.
