Mobile phone payments at retail point of sale are available, finally! No more standing around in long grocery store lines. A person can now get in and out of a store, any store accepting mobile app payments, on his or her timetable. The future of shopping has finally arrived as stores are finding a way to compete with online competitors. Their customers still get quality customer service face-to-face, but they can shop at their leisure now without worrying about a line getting too long.

Mobile App Barcode Scanner

To pay for items using a phone there needs to be a mobile app barcode scanner. For example, ScanOut is a mobile payment app that uses the camera as a barcode scanner.

Here is how that particular app works:

  • After downloading ScanOut to the mobile phone, the phone is now capable of handling life as a register

  • Use the camera to scan the barcode of the item

  • Take time to review each barcode item to make sure it corresponds with the item intended for purchase

  • Add items to the digital “cart” on the phone

  • Once all items are added, select “pay now”

  • Payment can be made with any Visa, Mastercard, or any other type of credit card

  • A digital receipt will serve as proof of purchase

A pro tip is to bring bags into the store. This way all the items are tucked neatly away. Leaving a department store with just an armful of clothes may look a bit suspicious.

Mobile Phone Payments

Stores have come a long way from the one to two cashiers to the 24 hour service back to long lines at the checkout and finally to accepting self checkout lanes. These lanes are just as fast, if not faster than normal lanes because people have a greater sense of urgency. People forget that a cashier has been doing the same thing for eight hours straight and will just get into a groove and have no incentive to move faster.

That of course is not against cashiers. Stores have been working on customer service as demand for items has only risen while companies only have x amount to spend on employees. So allowing customers to make mobile phone payments is a big plus for both businesses and consumers. Now the staff on hand won’t be short staffed and they will have time to take their breaks and still help customers.

A Win-Win Situation

Allowing customers to make mobile phone payments is a win-win for businesses. It allows customers to pay with just a touch of their phone giving them the power they’ve been seeking for decades. Shopping with mobile apps is making shopping fun again. Businesses are giving customers their time back and still turning a profit thanks to mobile phone payments.
