Start Your Day With A Healthy Breakfast

You have probably heard the advice - actually, how could you have missed it unless your head has been buried in the sand, or your phone, since the advent of social media. Anyway, we digress. The advice, oh yes, the advice is to eat a healthy breakfast. It starts you off properly and it gives you a base to get through the morning with energy and a bright smile.

Any nutritionist Queens is going to tell you it gives you a kick to the day. And, here’s the thing - it’s true. Breakfast is sufficiently important that places with a social conscience provide school breakfasts for children they suspect don’t get one at home. It is sort of that fundamental. If kids need to have breakfast to get their learning on, you probably need it to focus on the computer all morning.

What are you supposed to have for this breakfast which is going to do you so much good? Well, the bad news is not the big commercial cereals, although the feeling from those who know is having cereal is still better than nothing.

There’s another point in breakfast’s favor. They’d rather you eat something that has fructose corn syrup than nothing. The evidence is piling up.

Americans like eggs for breakfast. It’s something of a national love affair. Back in the McCarthy era to not like eggs was considered un-American. The British love their eggs too, but it is a little different. The British have no phrases like over easy, though in their uptight British way they believe this has a certain cachet and frankly would like to say it. Whatever else, you can be patriotic and have eggs for breakfast.

If you don’t want eggs, don’t worry there’s a plethora of alternatives. If eggs are off the menu, then how about oatmeal? In Britain, this is referred to as porridge. Whatever you call it, it has the advantage of coating your ribs from the inside. And it lasts for hours, well beyond lunchtime. But then it’s also used to hang wallpaper (before they invented wallpaper paste, honest), so it isn’t going to disappear anywhere quickly.

How about yogurt? Not necessarily perfect on a winter morning, but one of those bio-active ones just might get you going. Maybe think about doing your morning Queens Pilates class on an empty stomach and have breakfast sandwiched between it and work. The point is to eat something before the work day begins.
